Govt must be more sensitive, Najib says on CNY rules
Former PM Najib Razak said the National Security Council should get feedback from other races before drawing up rules for any celebration or cultural events.
PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Najib Razak has joined the chorus of voices against the Chinese New Year rules drawn up by the National Security Council (MKN), stating they do not accurately reflect the celebration.
For instance, he said, the reunion dinner was one of the most important aspects of CNY. It involves immediate family members, grandparents, uncles, aunties and cousins getting together.
“But the SOP (standard operating procedure), only allowing those from the same home to hold a reunion dinner does not mean anything … it will be just a normal dinner,” he said in a Facebook post.
“We can work along with foreign workers in factories and construction sites; mosques are partially open for Friday prayers, but why is the Chinese community not allowed to have dinner with their elders during the reunion dinner?” he asked.
As such, it would have been more meaningful if the SOP just touched on the ban on visitors, he said.
“Hopefully, in future, MKN will get feedback from other races before drawing up the rules for any celebration or cultural events so that the government is not seen as being insensitive.”
Yesterday, there was a widespread backlash over the Chinese New Year SOP. Even deputy national unity minister Ti Lian Ker said the SOP had to be rectified immediately.
“Someone has screwed up totally here. This SOP must be quickly withdrawn and rectified,” he posted on Facebook.
Najib also said the government had wasted too much time by not implementing a strict movement control order during the first 14 days after implementing it on Jan 13, causing it to be extended further until Feb 18.
This had also affected CNY festivities, he added.

ReplyDeletei disagree, wuhanvirus kill many elder, its impossible to hv social distancing in any reunion dinner unless one hv bangalooo with swimming pool, of course if the chiness old are in a hurry to meet their ancestors, thats a diff story.
ReplyDeleteSARS-CoV-2 can be adequately prevented by proper social distancing etiquettes that many Eastern cultures practice.
DeleteThat's the only prime reason that in the West many elders r left dying off through the so called 'personal freedom of choice' fart!
Only Formosa themed covid virus kill elders during reunion dinners bcoz of the meme-ed western cultures of huggings & kissing & refusing to wear mask!
In truth, those sinister demoNcratized mfers r the one that are in a hurry to force their elders to meet up with their ancestors.
- reducing social & healthcare costs
- get even with the siblings in quarrelling about who should taking care of their aging elders
what so eastern abt reunion dinner? hv dinner in a table of four n serve our dish gweilo style one to one n dun use chopsticks n dun lou sang? or each one lou their own sang?
Deletestupid zombie think alike, die die must lousang.
That's where yr Formosa meme-ed reunion dinner style comes from - the west, even though u kept farting about anglicised cultures.
DeleteMfer, all-over the world, many other people do exactly what u have described. But none in the scale of Chinese & for so long!
So, still want to parade yr nonchinese farts about Chinese culture?
Yaloh, more sensitive.
ReplyDeleteAbout the ketuanan agenda if the f*cked order!
All my Chinese friends are having reunion dinner one day earlier or on the 2nd day of CNY, so it’s legal. Fool Ah Ti and the virus.

ReplyDeleteJibby only pura-pura complain about SOP for CNY, why he never complain over his many court cases delayed due to MCO2?
ReplyDeletePasar malam boleh buka, Bangla boleh bekerja di-kilang tapi saya punya kes-kes semua sumbat dalam longkang sebab mahkamah tutup? Mana saya punya lorya tembakpanas diam2 saja tada hentam meja?

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 15): The 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) audit tampering trial involving former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and former 1MDB president and chief executive officer (CEO) Arul Kanda Kandasamy will be postponed to February.
The trial was scheduled to continue on Monday but has to be postponed following the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in six states from Jan 13 to 26 to curb the spread of Covid-19.
The trial will resume on Feb 22 at the High Court here before Justice Mohamed Zaini Mazlan if the MCO was not extended, said deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Ahmad Akram Gharib when contacted today.
“Next week’s trial will be postponed; it will resume on Feb 22 to 24,” he said via WhatsApp.
