Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail - whose party holds the most parliamentary seats in the coalition - is deputy premier, but sources told The Straits Times that she also demanded other senior portfolios for the party. This included the coveted finance portfolio, which Tun Dr Mahathir announced in a press conference on Saturday would instead go to Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
"She did not question Guan Eng's capability, but said that a Chinese should not take the role," a top PH leader said, referring to ethnic political considerations in government posts in Malay-majority Malaysia.
"I don't consider myself Chinese. I am a Malaysian."
According to a top PH leader, Princess Iron-Fan said that a Chinese should not take the role of Finance Minister.
Assuming that allegation has been true, we need to ask Why? Why not a Chinese?
And again, basing on that allegation, what does she meant by that?
As we know Rafizi Ramli, who has been miaowing most miaow-ishly about Mahathir's appointment of ministers in the 3 top ministries, is in Wan Azizah's faction. Obviously her faction has not been satisfied because it desires the Finance Ministry.
But while desiring teh Finance Ministry is understandable, WTF does she mean by, as per the allegations, a Chinese should not take the role of the Finance Minister?
What's so wrong with a Chinese being the Finance Minister?
Just for the record, Malaysia prospered well under the Finance-Ministry-ship of Tun Tan Siew Sin, who was so respected by Tun Razak that the then-PM ordered the Malaysian military (in black and white) to always offer Tun Tan a salute when the latter (being NOT the PM, DPM or Def Minister) was not due one.
Princess Iron-Fan must explain please. We regret the rising toxic fumes of ketuanan Melayu again.
