KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 — Putrajaya is looking to repeal the controversial Sedition Act 1948 and replace it with a new law, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today.
The prime minister said a decision will be made soonest possible.
“We are in the midst of structuring the new law and it will be concluded as soon as possible,” he told a news conference at Parliament.

The Pakatan Harapan government has been under fire for the delay in repealing the archaic law that was recently used to convict and punish Islamic preacher Wan Ji Wan Hussain from PKR over remarks made against the sultan of Selangor seven years ago.
It was the ruling coalition’s GE14 promise.

ReplyDeleteEven Ah Mok in Australia should not forget that, if you speak or act in ways that threaten the security of Australia, or overthrow the government of Australia, they can and will act against you.
Even though the Australia Sedition Act was repealed years ago, there are still other laws that were introduced to act against real security threats.
we need a bersatu act.
ReplyDeleteThat's roti canai. Wrong picture.
ReplyDeleteroti canai is OK for Malaysians who are gullible enough to believe in Mahathir
DeleteNew Law to replace the Sedition Act?
ReplyDeleteWho's idea is this? Aren't there enough Acts and Laws already which cover all the possible acts of sedition?
Looks like the works and suggestions of Napoleons belonging to the Deep State who fears their powers to enforce and persecute for their own political agenda being eroded and watered down.
We have sufficient laws to cover insulting religion, slander and defamation etc for common folk but I think the royals would want something specific like a les mejeste law that specifically protects them from insult, slander and defamation. I think they would prefer not to go to court.
ReplyDeleteMalaysian Chinese: Reap what you voted....
ReplyDeleteI am waiting for Mahathir to enact Election Law "Baru" to stop Malaysian Chinese from standing for general parliamentary elections....Iranian/Singapore style...then I will really laugh laugh laugh at those moronic 93% of Malaysian Chinese who voted Pakatan...
Just like what the Thai generals did.....Election Law Baru is coming....once Mahathir/Anwar consolidates all the Malays under their patronage
