Podah govt can't even keep a simple promise

Star Online:

MCA: Mat Sabu failed to keep word about awarding honorary military ranks
by rahimy rahim

PETALING JAYA: Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu has failed to keep his word in stopping his ministry's practice of awarding honorary ranks to politicians, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).

"Amirudin (Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari) is not just an ordinary leader. He is the Selangor Pakatan Harapan state chief.

"Adly (Melaka Chief Minister Adly Zahari) is a Melaka Parti Amanah Negara state leader, and Mohamad Sabu is the president of Amanah," said the MCA president in a Facebook post on Tuesday (July 23).

Dr Wee was responding to news that Amirudin had been made a honorary Brigadier-General in the army for his role as the patron of the Selangor Territorial Army Support Committee (JAKPAW).

Dr Wee pointed that Mohamad Sabu had announced on April 19 that the Defence Ministry has stopped the awarding of honorary ranks and the donning of military uniforms by politicians and celebrities.

"Only those who have undergone military training, such as in the Territorial Army, can wear uniforms," Mohamad Sabu reportedly said.

Dr Wee said the article which was published in a news portal has been shared by 21,300 users.

Poor Weewee. Afraid to talk about other things and now can only squeak about people wearing army uniforms.

Maybe deep inside, he yearns to wear one too. Just give lah Mat Sabu but make sure rank not higher than Private/Prebet. Wonder his cap will have the Kuomintang Star or not.

  2. You know you are doing a good job when critics don’t talk about your job performance, instead they talk about what you wear or don’t wear, or honoraries you receive. What a complete waste of time.

There are much more important things to talk about, such as the MB’s job for Selangor, instead Ah Wee piddles over honoraries received. It’s HONORARY.

Like the ribbons, stars and fruit salads on Latheefa’s uniform as MACC chief. She was not in the slightest bit interested in them but they made her wear it. When her job as MACC chief ends she can’t keep them anyway. They come and go with the job, not the person. I think we need to distinguish.

Many politicians receive honorary doctorates without having to study or write thesis for them. Should we criticise them too for accepting? Does this practice dishonour those people who did study and write thesis for their doctorates? I don’t hear them complaining, including Dr Ah Wee.

    1. Mat Sabu made a statement that Pakatan will NO LONGER issue such honorary ranks to sundry; only the Agong and Sultans are entitled as they are by constitution the uniformed Commander-in-Chief or Colonels-in-Chief

Just holding a minister to his WORD

    2. Furthermore, Latheefa Koya is NOT entitled to wear the 'fruit salad' bar on her left chest - no one can wear such ribbons (signifying honours, gallantry and campaigns achieved) unless that person has earned it. She is only entitled to wear the rank insignia on her shoulder epaulettes and other badges but NOT the ribbons. No ribbon goes automatically with a position - that's nonsense

  3. Poor Mat Sabun is a Tukang Masak, making promises beyond his powers. His deputy Liew Chin Tong is ready to take over, just like Teo Nie Ching is ever ready to take over from mumbling and stumbling Maszlee.

If Mat Sabun wants to keep his promise he must ammend the Armed Forces Act 1972 first, otherwise he cannot stop honoraria being automatically awarded when a new person takes on a senior position that grants him that responsibility and honorarium.

I suppose Jibby would be the first to shoot down any Ammendment to our Constitution that says the Commander in Chief of our Armed Forces shall be the sitting Agong, currently his own state Sultan. Some of our past Agongs have had military background, but some have not, but nevertheless they ALL are Chief of Armed Forces by virtue of the Constitution. The rank and title goes with the position, not the person. It is the same with the US President. In Britain the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces is the Queen.

    QUOTE
The Malaysian Constitution establishes that the office of Supreme Commander is attached to the person of the Federal Head of State, Yang di-Pertuan Agong:

Federal Constitution, Article 41 - The Yang di-Pertuan Agong shall be the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Federation.

  4. In a desperate attempt to distract the embarrassing revelations at his ongoing SRC trial Jibby has resorted to mocking a Tukang Masak.

The most embarrassing revelation was that while he was Finance Minister he issued bounced check at his personal AmBank accounts. No wonder our National Debt reached 1 trillion and he did not even realise it.

And on his modest PM’s salary his credit card limit was USD100k, and he still maxed it out, needing Jho Low to intervene.

    1. Wee made a valid point in Mat Sabu violating his (Mat Sabu's) very own words

    2. What Mat Sabu meant was those not entitled by Laws/Act eg. Agong, Sultan, YDPB, Raja-raja etc. being given honorary ranks.

I am not sure about Chief Ministers, Actors, actresses, sportsmen, sportswomen, politicians etc.

If CM/MB are also allowed, why are some given and some not given?

    3. Agong and HRHs are constitution Commander or Colonels in Chief of Armed Forced and Regiments respectively, adopted form the British protocol

MBs and CMs are politicians who change with political winds and therefore should be strictly separated from the ranks of the Civil Service, Police and military

    4. But but there was a case:

Najib as PM is not a public officer, High Court rules!

Thus, in the same light, what r u trying to imply?

    1. nonsense, this is important as it keeps ministers responsible for what they promise the public

with your anti-opposition mentality, ministers and their ilk would get away with everything

and stop being silly in suggesting Mat Sabu the minister goes on a suicide mission to Afghanistan. What the fuck for?

    2. totally agree with you that it is important to keep ministers responsible for what they promise, so where was loctor wee when he was in government? can't recall he said anything substantial that the previous gomen promised but capati-ed, what does that prove? that he is a hypocrite?

    3. of course he was a hypocrite but nonetheless he has served his duties well now

  7. Stop wasting time.

The honorariums automatically come into effect by operation of law, not by what the Tukang Masak gives or does not give out. He does not even know what he is promising. He cannot take away what the law gives, unless the law is changed to remove the honorarium.

    QUOTE
In a press release earlier today about the honorary ranks, however, the Defence Ministry (Mindef) said the honorary ranks were awarded by virtue of the pair’s position as Jakpaw patrons, which in turn was due to their position as heads of state government.

“The patron of Jakpaw in each state shall be the menteri besar or chief minister (of the respective state) that is approved by the Armed Forces Council and would be accorded the rank of honorary brigadier-general.

“In addition, the position of Jakpaw chairperson is reserved for the state secretary. The appointment of Jakpaw chairperson shall be made by the menteri besar, chief minister, or federal territories minister and carries the rank of honorary colonel.

“All these honorary commissioned ranks must be approved by the Armed Forces Council and assented by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong beforehand, as stipulated under Section 198 of the Armed Forces Act 1972,” said the ministry.
