Human Rights lawyer eff-ed AG as mere "passive recipient of instructions"

Extracts from Malaysiakini:

Politicians condemned for playing 'civil service sabotage' card

Edmund Bon

Senior human rights lawyer Edmund Bon (above) today criticised ministers and political leaders for using "civil service sabotage" as an excuse for delays in reform.

Not mentioning names, he said some political leaders have "forgotten where they come from" and actually do not know how to work with the civil service.

"We have friends from civil society now in politics who forget where they come from, who they are and what they're doing there," Bon said.

"I don't believe it when ministers or politicians who say there is sabotage or civil servants are not working. I just think some people are just too big for their boots and when they come into government, they don't know (how to work) with civil service.

Well said, Edmund.

After he eff-ed those politicians for tokking kok, he turned his gun sight on the Attorney-General, Tommy Thomas, wakakaka, criticising Tommy for the latter's nonsense he was unaware of Wan Ji case. Edmund Bon was reported as follows:

Bon also expressed dissatisfaction with Attorney-General Tommy Thomas, who he said is acting as a "passive recipient of instructions" instead of upholding human rights.

He said it is unacceptable for the AG to say he was unaware of the Sedition Act case against preacher Wan Ji Wan Hussin, where the High Court convicted and enhanced his sentence.

The AG had said no written representation was made to him about the case, and that he had only learnt about it when the High Court decision reported in the media on July 9.

"What nonsense is this? Everything, you don't know. What kind of AG is this? An AG who only thinks about 1MDB?" he asked.

Bon added that this was especially frustrating because Thomas (below) himself had previously written that the public prosecutor in Malaysia is more powerful than the prime minister.

"If the AG considers himself just a drafting fellow acting on the advice of the government, then so be it.

"But (not) when you have an AG who has previously made many statements and you are coming with a human rights record. To now say, 'Only if cabinet say so then I will do' is like a passive recipient of instructions? No?

"If the government's intentions are to get rid of the Sedition Act then you draft it, and get rid of the Sedition Act and help us with these things," he said.

In May, the government announced that the Sedition Act will be repealed and replaced with another law to safeguard against defamatory statements against the monarchy.

The Sedition Act is among laws Pakatan Harapan pledged to reform in its election manifesto. Others included the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act, Prevention of Crime Act and the National Security Council Act.

Wakakaka. Good on you Edmund for telling the AG off for his 'act dunno' routine.

I just love Edmund's statement, to wit, "What nonsense is this? Everything, you don't know. What kind of AG is this? An AG who only thinks about 1MDB?", showing Thomas' fixation on what 'Atuk wants, namely, to eff Najib kaukau through 1MDB.

That's OK but the AG should not ignore other issues like the inhumane case against Wan Ji, who was ONLY released from lockup after public protests. Useless AG.

But on a more serious note, Edmund has been correct in criticising Tommy Thomas as an AG who is just "passive recipient of instructions" (we know from who, wakakaka) instead of upholding human rights.

AG, IGP, MACC Commissioner - semua dipilih olih Atuk - two have failed to meet our expectation, so now it's up to Latheefa Beebi Koya to show us her mettle by getting Peh Mor, not just some obscure session judge.

  1. Bon Advocates (now AmerBON) and Tommy Thomas Advocates and Solicitors are well known boutique legal firms in KL, serving similar hoity toity Tattler-reading snots as well as big name corporate and government clients.

Bon Advocates was located just a stones throw from Tommy Thomas’ legal firm, both in Bangsar, before moving to Solaris Dutamas when they became AmerBON.

It’s a cut-throat business where reputation and the thickness of your CV means everything. The names on your roster counts a lot.

Edmund’s CV got a boost when he was appointed Malaysia's representative to the Asean Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) in 2016-2018. He succeeded a person we all know: Tan Sri Dr Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, who occupied the position for two consecutive terms from 2010 until 2015.

But what did Edmund Bon achieve during his term there? Nothing that comes to mind. But it was an appointment that was a huge one-upmanship over TT.

Then last year Toonsie made Tommy AG. Phoaa. That’s the biggest legal cookie cutter of all.

Poor Edmund knows he can never beat that. Unless he becomes Chief Justice or something. Fat chance. So Jealousy creeps in. Tak boleh tahan.

So what does poor Ed do? Well, speak bad about Tommy of course, knowing that Tommy can’t use the office of AG to retaliate, that wouldn’t look good would it?

But Tommy will have the last laugh. When he is finished as AG he will return to legal practice and have a CV Edmund can never match.

  2. Make no mistake, there is rivalry between legal firms; many lawyers are envious that Tommy was plucked to become AG. They would love to see him fail.

  3. Wakakkakakaka

Obviously this small little bird (Edmund) is half blind and also do not believe in the existence of "The Deep State" in Govt. and piling everything on and due to the AG performance.

Anyway, some of his advise is good for the AG to take note and put his Foot down when certain matters on PH Reforms are not watered down when he is in the know and right before his eyes.

  4. Edmund Bon is sore.....very sore that Tommy was made AG, the top lawyer job in the land, with 1,200 lawyers working in AGC. That is something AmerBON can never have in their CV or roster, but Tommy Thomas Advocates and Solicitors will have on theirs when Tommy goes back to his private practice.

Stiff Shit Edmund. Live With It.

AG denies filing affidavit saying Adib wasn't beaten up by mob
    Kow Gah Chie

Attorney-General Tommy Thomas has denied involvement in the filing of an affidavit with the Court of Appeal stating how firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim had died.

In his own affidavit dated July 19 and filed at the Coroner's Court, Thomas said although 1,200 legal officers in the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) reported to him, he did not direct nor instruct them in their daily tasks...

  5. Edmund Bon is just doing his job and bringing up issues without fear or favour while the rest of you are just applying double standards.
Whenever it is the DAP/Tun M they can do no wrong in your eyes. If they cock up it is someone else's fault and it is always some conspiracy theory that leads back to BN's fault. While for BN they can do no right. Call a spade a spade if you guys have any principles.

That is why i respect Tan Chee Khoon. He was without fear or favour. Not opposing for the sake of it.

    2. Please lah! How old r u to know the REAL tck?

      WITHOUT fear or favour?

      My foot lah!

Without the protection of the triad members around flat Suleiman, he would have kept his mouth shut tied!

& yet he had zilch honour in not giving favours to those triad members, who sacrificed a lot for him to earn that title that he had no shame in tying with!

BTW, those favours that the triad members asked for WERE mainly a good letters of endorsement for their kids for jobs/schools!

If a man DOESN'T know HOW to return favours given THEN he has zilch honour underneath that superficial pious cover!
