KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians are curious about whether the sex video involving former Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz and implicating Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali is genuine, says PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

According to Anwar, the people also want to know who was behind the dissemination of the video.

“The investigations are under the purview of the police. There are two phases: Is the video genuine, and who was the one who spread it.

“The people want to know these two aspects,” he told a press conference in Parliament on Tuesday (July 16).

On Sunday (July 14) night, Haziq and five other individuals were arrested by the police in multiple locations across the Klang Valley to assist investigations under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

They were all remanded for six days until July 20. Two of them are PKR members.

The day before that (July 13), Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador said that the police were closing in on the “alliance” behind the sex video scandal.

Haziq was first detained at KLIA on June 14 and the police set up a special task force led by Comm Huzir Mohamed to investigate the case three days later.

Haziq has already confessed to being one of the two men involved in sexual acts in the video, and claimed the other was Azmin.

Azmin has however categorically denied this.

Don't you think whether the video is genuine (even if the PDRM has verified it as genuine and not a fake during their investigations) cannot be said in public except determined by the Court when it is brought to trial with evidences and accused charged? The police job is to investigate and passed it on to the AG who then press the necessary charges under the Acts/Laws based on investigations and evidences obtained. Even the AG would be foolish to say anything, since it is also not their job to confirm whether any evidence obtained is genuine or fake and announced it publicly.

Why jump the Gun? Let the due process of Laws and Justice takes it's course.

What the IGP or AG can say in public would probably be qualified with "We think/belief according to investigations done ........".

For politicians though, it makes for good politiking based on whatever agenda they want to see according to their own timeline.

What the public can do if they are the "Beh Ta Han / No Patience or Kaypoh/Busybodies types is to deduce from whatever is revealed by PDRM and analyse it to make their own prempted conclusions as to the genuine/fake of the tape and who are the likely suspects to be charged. And that also depends on what are the Laws likely broken and going to be used to charge, as part of the investigations.

So, politicians job is to read what interest the public to make them look good/popular and get votes whereas PDRM, AG, Courts job is to investigate and bring charges. The final arbiter of truth can only be determined in Courts.

So, being a public interest case, it is the responsibility of the PDRM, AG and the Courts to speed up the processes involved for all parties involved. And this should also include the Perak cases of Graft and Rape cases.

So while awaiting, does it not occur to anyone especially the more observant ones that so many current public interest cases happening seem to be diverting public attention from all the corruption cases currently on trial and pending?

And why are all the Pak Hajis/Ustazs/Ulamas who were once so vociferous in public matters suddenly so so quiet in all these issues and burying their heads in the sand as if they have disappeared from view?
