Guan Eng’s sister also agreed with Ferry replacement, so Guan Eng STFU

Wee: ‘Shameless’ Guan Eng acting like he is still Penang CM

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 — Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong said former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng is still ‘shamelessly’ acting as if he is still helming the state.

The MCA president questioned Lim’s right to raise the federal government’s decision to discontinue the ferry service in Penang.

He was commenting on Lim’s statement last week in which the DAP secretary-general had said that the decision to discontinue the ferry service is an unequivocal declaration of Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) open confrontation with Penang citizens.

On his Facebook posting yesterday, Wee responded to Lim by stating that the latter is no longer the Penang chief minister to issue such a retort and that the federal government will instead conduct proper discussions with Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

“Looks like Lim Guan Eng is still acting like he’s the Penang Chief Minister whereas the Penang Chief Minister recognised by the Federal government is none other than YAB Chow Kon Yeow (CKY). Whatever decision about the ferry services, Tengku Zafrul and I will discuss with the real Chief Minister, CKY!

“Many Penangites are confused as if there are two Chief Ministers, whereby YAB Chow Kon Yeow is the weekdays’ CM while Lim Guan Eng is the weekend CM,’’ said Wee.

Wee also pointed out that it was the previous Pakatan Harapan government that had agreed to replace Penang ferry services with catamaran vessels.

“Lim Guan Eng’s sister, who is also a current Senator, Lim Hui Ying also agreed with this move. Looks like the Lim family should call for a family meeting to standardise their views,’’ said Wee.

Wee said replacing the ferry service, which is prone to breakdowns, with catamarans is a practical initiative to protect the safety of Penangites which will benefit Penang’s travel and transport industries.

kt notes:

As mentioned in previous post, Guan Eng knows he is now not very well respected and is this is DESPERATE to regain his old invincible popularity amongst Penangites, so he would say anything on everything, what more on an emotional Penang issue, wakakaka. What an eff-ing Drama Queen.

  3. The complete cessation of the ferry service using the current ferry vehicles is deeply unpopular with Penangites , hence Wee KHAT Siong, and Ktemoc desperately trying to hang it on Lim Guan Eng.

A few things need to be made clear , because of Wee KHAT Siong's sophism.

The Pakatan Harapan Government's decision was to buy new Catamaran ferries , NOT to completely terminate the service of the current vehicles.

    Those are two different decisions.
There is in fact NO inevitability between the first decision and the subsequent one.

The decision to completely terminate the service of the current ferry vehicles belongs squarely to the Perikatan Nasional Government, in spite of all attempts by Wee KHAT Siong and his sidekick here to muddy the waters.

  4. So Wee KHAT Siong should now STFU?

I did not agree with plan to cancel ferries, says Guan Eng’s sister
    FMT Reporters - December 28, 2020

PETALING JAYA: Lim Hui Ying, the sister of former Penang chief minister Guan Eng, has denied Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong’s claim she had agreed with a proposal to replace Penang’s ferries with catamaran-type boats.

Hui Ying, a senator, said she had told the Dewan Negara she would like to see at least two of the three iconic ferries currently in use retained.

“No one is saying that we object to the catamarans. However, and I made it very clear in my speech, the federal government should continue the iconic ferry service, even if at a slightly lower frequency, to complement the new catamaran service,” she said in a statement.

Hui Ying said she had called for Putrajaya to continue the ferry services after Dec 31, in contrast to the government’s plan of halting all ferry operations until the catamaran boats arrived.

She urged Wee to “heed the call of Penangites” by allowing the 126-year-old Penang ferry service to continue, in line with the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government’s plan.

According to her, it was not the first time that Wee and his party, MCA, had attempted to divide DAP leaders with false statements.

“Wee and MCA should stop being defensive, desperately finding ways, including twisting our words, to justify his callous plan to terminate the iconic Penang ferry service,” she said.

Guan Eng says will join Penangites for island ferry’s final trip on Dec 31, rues PN’s termination of 126-year service
    Monday, 28 Dec 2020

    BY IDA LIM

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 — Penang’s Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng today said he will be joining the state residents this Thursday morning to say a final goodbye to the state’s iconic ferry service which has been in operation for 126 years.

Lim, who is also secretary-general of federal opposition party DAP, said it was the new Perikatan Nasional government which had decided to stop running the Penang ferry service from next year onwards.

“Penangites can say our final goodbye to the iconic 126-year old Penang ferry service on Thursday 31st December at the Penang Island Ferry Terminal.

“Let us take our final trip as passengers (not vehicles) in fond nostalgia of this basic mode of transport before the completion of the 1st Penang Bridge, and reiterate that the iconic Penang ferry should be retained in the interests of heritage and history for our children. I will be going at 10am Thursday,” he said in a statement today.

Lim said that the iconic Penang ferry service would have still continued if the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition had remained in power at the federal government level.

Lim said that the Finance Ministry under him had previously stipulated that the Penang Port Sdn Bhd must continue to run the ferry service, as part of the condition for the federal government’s RM30 million grant to the company to run the ferry service.

Lim said the PH federal government had not opposed the idea of adding on catamarans, provided that the existing ferry service be maintained.

He said the PH administration had then acknowledged the cost and difficulty of finding suitable spare parts for the ferries, and that was the reason it had only insisted that the remaining two or three ferries be allowed to operate.

“In other words, the catamarans will be operating in parallel with the existing ferry services as is being practised by many countries such as Hong Kong or Canada, a co-existence of heritage and modernity,” he said.

He said both the Transport Ministry and the Penang Port Commission under the new PN federal government decided to terminate Penang’s ferry service on December 31 “without any sentiment for its unique historic and heritage value”.
