Bao Gong is missing in Penang

From FMT:

Jho Low’s family house nothing to do with 1MDB, says Penang pressure group

Jho Low’s family home in Penang is among the assets involved in a RM680 million civil forfeiture action.

PETALING JAYA: A Penang-based NGO has hit out at authorities’ efforts to seize a mansion belonging to the mother of runaway businessman Low Taek Jho, saying the house has nothing to do with state fund 1MDB.
Citizens Awareness Chant Group (CHANT) adviser Yan Lee said he had known Low’s parents, Larry Low Hock Peng and Goh Gaik Ewe, for more than 20 years.
“This home was their family home for many years and their children grew up in this house.
“Obviously if any funds are proven in an impartial court of law to have been misappropriated, they should be recovered, but how could this house be connected to 1MDB when it was built long before 1MDB existed?” he said in a statement shared by Low’s spokesman. [...]
... Yan said the government should follow the rule of law and “stop using this issue as an excuse”.
“Taking a family home – anyone’s family home – without any real reason is just not right.”

  1. Been living there for more than 20 years? That mansion looks kinda new....sure no renovations done since then...? Maybe MACC knows more.

Jibby paid for renovations at his KL and Pekan houses...with money from KWAP via SRC...that was not disputed by the defence in court. If Jibby had run away after GE14 his houses may have been seized too..

    1. Your understanding of the underlying issue is Spot On.

There is no doubt the Low family had been living at the address for decades. The Lows could previously be considered wealthy, but not Midas Rich.

The Palatial upgrade and renovation you see today is of much more recent origin.

Penang people who live in the area are well aware of that. You can't miss the "Palace" if you drive pass by that road.

The surrounding legal questions could be somewhat complicated.
If it is proven 1MDB funds were utilised in a major or significant way, does that qualify the total property to be subject to civil forfeiture ?

      I don't know....let the court decide.

  3. The header "Bao Gong is missing in Penang" shows Ah Mok has jumped to conclusion that an injustice is being carried out.

Ah Mok is obviously over eager to defend Jho Low (why?

I suspect the AG already has full set of documentation, invoices, bank transactions , contractor testimony, linking the major expenditure on improvements in the last few years to the property to 1MDB funds.

Let's see what comes out in court.

    1. The current AG is spending so much time in nailing & tidying all possible loose ends of 1MDB, he has very little time for any other issues.

The unfortunate thing is his Dept is filled with moles, frustrated DPPS who r now with one less undertabling incomes, nincompoops surviving on gaji buta & lil' napoleons of questionable intentions.

Thus, all the ongoing legal missteps coming out to embarrass him!
