Leave dear poor old God alone

Naturally we have long since congratulated Mr Tommy Thomas for being approved by HM the Agong as the new AG.

And we look forward to his renowned performance as the AG of a secular nation which is a constitutional monarchy.

But having said that, I (at least personally as an individual) wasn't all that pleased when he proclaimed his gratitude to God etc etc etc for the miracle of him becoming the new AG of Malaysia.

Please lah Mr AG, keep your religion to yourself or(and) at home and not in display in your public role.

Kepercayaan Kepada Tuhan is well and good but it should be one's personal responsibility as a citizen, and NOT be a required duty to express so in line with one's duty or(and) profession.

We have had enough of the regular (ad nauseam) religious proclamations from Muslim officials already. Please don't add anymore to that non-secular public avowals, verbalised exuberance, and public proclamations which this secular nation can certainly do without.

Please leave God out of state affairs, and politics out of the church.

Thanks.

  3. Wrong understanding of a Secular State, as opposed to an Atheistic state e.g. North Korea or Peoples' Republic of China.

A secular state means laws and government policies and actions cannot be made on the basis of religion.
In Malaysia, that is modified by all Muslims being subject to Islamic personal laws e.g. births, deaths, marriage , divorce , inheritance.

There is no bar on public religion in a secular democracy.

In most developed countries, religion has a declining role in public life, but that is a function of social trends, not constitutional principles or restrictions.

    1. religion is personal in any secular state, not just communist or fascist states. No one bans any religion in a secular state but the state or its officials cannot include or insert or mention any religion in its policies, proclamations and laws. I fear you do not understand this

Islam law is only for Muslim affairs but the law of the Malaysia is secular as shown by the supremacy of the civil courts over the subordinate syariah courts

    3. The colonial interest in Malaya was largely commercial.

Below is the first Islamic establishment clause:

"What is called the 'Religion of the State'; for this Territory and State of Johore is the Muslim Religion and such being the case, the Muslim Religion shall continuously and forever be, and be acknowledged to be, and spoken of as, the 'State Religion'; that is to say, on no account may another religion be made or spoken of as the religion of the country". 6. I don't see any problem with him thanking his God. Just like some famous English premier league or world class footballers praying to their God in joy after scoring goals or qualifying for some finals.

Why must he be stopped from his expression of joys or happiness in his job? Is it against the laws or Constitution?

Are expressions to God only allowed in times of national disasters where everyone then seem to be so suddenly civil in respecting people of different faiths and their prayers.

What hippocrites, those who condemn others in their expressions to their own God or Gods.
