Taiwan out of Confucius shadow

In landmark first for Asia, Taiwan’s parliament approves same-sex marriage

TAIPEI, May 17 —Taiwan’s parliament legalised same-sex marriage today in a landmark first for Asia as the government survived a last-minute attempt by conservatives to pass a watered-down version.

The island’s lawmakers comfortably passed a law allowing same-sex couples to form “exclusive permanent unions” and a second clause that would let them apply for a “marriage registration” with government agencies.

The vote is a major victory for the island’s LGBT community who have campaigned for years to have similar of equal marriage rights as heterosexual couples and places the island at the vanguard of Asia’s burgeoning gay rights movement.

In recent months conservatives had mobilised to rid the law of any reference to marriage, instead putting forward rival bills that offered something closer to limited same-sex unions. But those bills struggled to receive enough votes.

Hundreds of gay rights supporters gathered despite heavy rain near Taipei’s parliament as a mammoth legislative debate got under way over an issue that has bitterly divided the island. — AFP

Kaytee note: Wakakaka, shall we break off diplomatic relations with Taiwan. Ooops, we don't have diplomatic relation

  1. There goes Taiwan, going down the drain...hahahaha...

I considered Taiwan as a brave, lone outpost of liberty standing up to the totalitarian China colossus.

In the years to come , it will need courage and stern discipline to remain as a self-governing entity or be submerged as just another province of Communist China.

This pandering to an ultra-liberal agenda is not going to help the disciplined society that they need to remain free.

    1. Exactly. Here we should roll back liberalism and stop pandering to non-Malays. Like Taiwan homos, just because they are citizens doesn't mean we have to give them what they want. Bagus, lu faham.

  2. Wakakakakakaka

Believers of the Abrahamic God/Gods will surely hope that their God punish the country and it's people for giving equal rights to LGBTs?
Earthquake, volcano eruption, tsunamis, disease etc use to be the usual punishments attributed to their God/Gods wrath and doing.

Don't their religion know, not all living things comes in perfect pairs for sexual reproduction but there are also asexual, bisexual etc?

Even Confucius, one of the world's wisest and learned sage did not know and so the Taiwanese must have grown smarter than him to recognise LGBTs are as human as anyone else except for their genetic sexual preferences.

One of the undeniable fact is that LGBTs are not born from animals or made by ETs but are also conceived and born from normal human beings with just not having the same sexual preferences as society perceptions of males and females sexual behavior.

LGBTs are definitely a better and safer group to be with, than normal looking human beings who are actually Paedophiles, Rapists, Voyeurs, Bestialism, Masochism, Sadism or other queers in sex life.

So, what's the big deal with same sex marriage? It's their sexual preference just like anyone else having their own sexual preference.

  3. Taiwan will soon extend a migration category for Bruneians soon, called the Rainbow Visa Programme.

And when the Labour Party wins the Australian elections this weekend Malaysia will be proud to have one of her own as their Foreign Minister, the openly gay Penny Wong, who has said Malaysia and Indonesia will be the first countries she will visit. I hope Penny brings her partner because I would love to see Toonsie shake hands with her.

    I'm Lovin' It...!
