What God Told Bush

It’s not just Osama bin Laden, or the extremist former chief rabbi of Israel Ovadia Yosef or even the spiritual leader of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), Nik Aziz Nik Mat, who talks to God. No sirree, none other than the US President of the USA, George W Bush talks to the Almighty.

According to the BBC, President Bush claimed he was instructed by God to invade Iraq and Afghanistan. Hallelujah! There’s nothing to beat a divine imprimatur.

But to even things out, and very much to Ariel Sharon’s chagrin, Bush has also received divine instructions to create a Palestinian state. Alhamdulillah.

Apparently Bush told all these to Palestinian PM Mahmoud Abbas, and his foreign minister Nabil Shaath in June 2003.

Nabil Shaath told the BBC that the US president said:

"I'm driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan. And I did, and then God would tell me, George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq ... And I did. And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East. And by God I'm gonna do it."

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas also related that Bush told him: "I have a moral and religious obligation. So I will get you a Palestinian state."

Needless to say, with all the American Christian Right and pro-Israeli lobbies staring down on Bush, the White House denied Bush said all that. But the BBC has tapes to support its report.
