Two detained for alleged insults towards Kedah MB

Police have arrested two more men over claims they insulted Kedah Mentri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, this time through comments posted on Facebook last month.

According to Harian Metro, the two men, aged 42 and 52, were picked up at their respective homes in Alor Setar at 5.30pm and 6.15pm yesterday.

The pair, a businessperson and a technician, reportedly admitted to writing and posting comments on the Facebook account of a political leader.

Kota Setar police chief ACP Ahmad Shukri Mat Akhir said a special officer to Sanusi had lodged a report at the Alor Setar Police Station at around 10.30am yesterday.

"One of them is a private employee and the other a businessperson. Both have no previous criminal record and were released on bail after being taken into custody," he said in a statement today.

He said both of them were being investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offenses Act 1955, Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Yesterday, a 61-year-old man from Negeri Sembilan was also arrested and detained over a video that allegedly insulted Sanusi (above) after the latter was caught joking about where to place bodies of Covid-19 victims.

Kuala Muda district police chief Adzli Abu Shah confirmed that police tracked down the man and raided his home.

"The man was remanded and released on police bail after his statement was recorded," he added.

Adzli said the video incident is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Section 504 is related to intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace which carries a punishment of up to two years imprisonment or a fine or both.

Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 concerns insulting behaviour which carries a fine of up to RM100.

Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988 concerns the misuse of network facilities which is punishable with a fine of up to RM50,000 or up to a year imprisonment or both.

  1. Wonderful police work!!!!

We must really appreciate the excellent and quick results the police managed to achieve in a short time.

This is really what the police should be doing - spend time and resources pursuing people who insult useless politicians.
