Umno VP: Time to close ranks, our MPs in PN should return to the fold
Umno MPs who are supportive of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government should return to Umno, said party vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
"It is now very clear that the prime minister and PN can no longer hold the government together.
"Therefore, Umno must unite. To all the Umno MPs in PN, your place in our party is still available," said Khaled (above).
He said Umno had played a part in PN but that coalition had strayed from its objectives and failed.
He added that Umno must now play a role in resolving a national crisis and ensure the party's success in future elections.
"To achieve this, Umno must unite and close ranks at all levels, including among MPs. We must reinvigorate our party, unite, and focus on what's right," he said.
As of Aug 9, 15 out of Umno's 38 MPs have withdrawn support for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Umno's top leadership decided to withdraw support for Muhyiddin over the latter's alleged disrespect for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
This was sparked by the Muhyiddin administration's insistence that the emergency ordinance need not be debated and voted on in Parliament.
However, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong insisted that this process was necessary to fulfil Article 150(3) of the Federal Constitution.
