Choose carefully, not all in old Cabinet were liked, PM advised

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob must take the rakyat’s sentiments against the previous administration into consideration when picking his Cabinet, says an Umno Youth leader.
Speaking to FMT, Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Mohamed Nizham Abdullah Hamidi said the prime minister has the prerogative to shape his Cabinet.
He said while it was important that efforts to address the health and economic crises should be continued, public sentiment was also important.
“The people are not happy with the management of several critical areas, especially health and the economy. So he must first evaluate the performance of the previous Cabinet.”

Speaking to FMT, Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Mohamed Nizham Abdullah Hamidi said the prime minister has the prerogative to shape his Cabinet.
He said while it was important that efforts to address the health and economic crises should be continued, public sentiment was also important.
“The people are not happy with the management of several critical areas, especially health and the economy. So he must first evaluate the performance of the previous Cabinet.”

Nizham said while there may not be a complete change from the previous Cabinet, there were still many MPs to choose from.
Earlier today, former federal territories minister Annuar Musa said he believed Ismail’s Cabinet line-up would not change much from the previous one because those who can be part of the Cabinet come from the same pool of 114 MPs who initially supported Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration.
However, Nizham said, some like vaccine minister Khairy Jamaluddin had performed well and having him back in the Cabinet would be a good decision.
“Communication will be key for this government. The previous administration failed to provide calm and clarity on various issues, causing a lot of backlash.
“I believe the country needs fresh faces with the right experience and expertise to help the prime minister in steering us out of the crisis.”
So Nizham said it was critical for Ismail’s Cabinet to project the prime minister’s commitment to fighting the pandemic and reviving the economy.
“Of course, those in the Cabinet must have enough credibility, integrity and a good image.
“While I understand the political predicament he faces in deciding on the Cabinet line-up, we must do what’s right even when it is a difficult thing to do.”
