PETALING JAYA: Ismail Sabri Yaakob has been named the country’s ninth prime minister, succeeding Muhyiddin Yassin who resigned from the post on Monday.

Ismail was Muhyiddin’s deputy, a post he was appointed to on July 7. He was also the defence minister.

His appointment by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah was announced by Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin in a statement today.

The Umno vice-president is expected to be sworn in as prime minister tomorrow at 2.30pm.

Ismail had previously served in various ministries during Barisan Nasional’s reign.

In 2008, he was appointed youth and sports minister under Abdullah Badawi and a year later, under Najib Razak, he was made the minister for domestic trade, co-operatives and consumerism.

In 2013, he was given the agriculture and agro-based industry portfolio, later being appointed as the rural and regional development minister in 2015.

kt notes:

Six months ago, who in Malaysia including Ismail himself would have imagined a Turtle-Egg Head could become PM9.

Unwittingly, UMNO diehards manipulated political powers hither and thither non-stop until by default of no other alternative he is now the Prime Minister of Malaysia, wakakaka.

Yes, who would have imagine a nonentity in Malaysian politics have risen to the No 1 Political Position.

Good luck to Turtle-Egg Head - and here's hoping the turtles will be safe from his gastronomical preference.

  2. Tony Pua and Ong Kian Meng's worst case prediction is now 50% true. So Unless Ismail Sabri puts together a Unity/Inclusive Gomen (eg Anwar as DPM) and/or adopts some/all the concessions that Mahiaddin offered last week that was rejected by all and sundry (including KT ha ha ha)...we owe TP and OKM an Apology. We should have listened to their advice, instead we were blindly consumed by hatred for Mahiaddin/PN, we could not think straight.

And to All who Obediently re-twitted Jibby's FAKE chest-thumping twits attacking Mahiaddin/PN gomen, you kena TIPU by the Grand Sandiwara, he was only pretending, he still voted for Mahiaddin's toad IS. I wonder what Jibby will bang on his keyboard tonight, all of a sudden glowing comments on IS? Can KT please check and advise....? Ha ha ha...Suckers.

Pua rues role in bringing Umno back to power
    FMT Reporters -August 20, 2021

PETALING JAYA: A DAP leader who supported former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s proposed framework for bipartisan political cooperation has been left lamenting Umno’s return to the premiership.

Tony Pua said it was “bad” that Pakatan Harapan was kicked out of Putrajaya in February last year.

“But playing a major starring role in returning power to Umno? Devastating,” the Damansara MP said in a Facebook post today.

Pua was among the few voices who felt that Muhyiddin’s overtures, which were considered to be a last-ditch attempt to keep the Perikatan Nasional-led government intact, should be considered by the opposition bloc.

Pua had argued that Muhyiddin’s offers – which were summarily dismissed by all opposition parties – would potentially prevent an Umno MP from becoming prime minister.

“The kleptocrats go free; the same clowns in Cabinet,” he had pointed out, referring to Umno leaders who were facing court charges.

Apart from Pua, Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming had also expressed an openness to discuss Muhyiddin’s proposals.

Their stand drew brickbats, including from DAP central executive committee member Ronnie Liu, who called on the duo to retract their statements, saying it had angered the people.

Ismail Sabri Yaakob was named the country’s ninth prime minister this evening, succeeding Muhyiddin, who resigned from the post on Monday.
