Faizal fried by netizens over ‘curry mee’ TikTok video
Ahmad Faizal Azumu has been asked to ‘use his noodles’ and do more to help the prime minister rather than test the quality of ‘curry mee’ in Putrajaya.
PETALING JAYA: A TikTok video showing special adviser to the prime minister Ahmad Faizal Azumu tasting a “curry mee” dish in his Putrajaya office and giving a blow-by-blow account of its quality has drawn some spicy comments from netizens.
Some of them were flabbergasted that Faizal was giving a food review when the nation was reeling from the worsening Covid-19 cases and deaths, coupled with a government whose majority is under serious question.
In the video that has gone viral, the former Perak menteri besar said he was trying a bowl of curry noodles from Putrajaya which he heard was tasty, adding that this dish was a favourite of his when he was in Ipoh.
Quipping that he used to eat curry noodles every day back in Ipoh, he gave the bowl of noodles from Putrajaya a rating of 8.5 out of 10.
One netizen asked: “Is this the quality of ministers Malaysia has?”, while others criticised the video for being untimely and in poor taste.
A Facebook user, Suhaili Abu Kassim, said Faizal should be using his time and brains to come up with ideas to help the prime minister manage the Covid-19 situation instead of promoting a bowl of curry noodles.
Noting that his portfolio included socioeconomic development, he said this video did little to help entrepreneurs and that the Bersatu deputy president should be addressing the matter through a bigger scope.
Another clip was followed with a comment saying: “Is this what we are paying him for? What kind of minister is this?”
Other netizens saw the funny side of the video, with Facebook user Deen Keramat quipping that Faizal should promote other outlets aside from the curry noodles store.
“Automotive shops, jewellers, barbers, all kinds of shops have been affected. Ask Peja to promote these as well,” he said, calling Faizal by his nickname.
Meanwhile, some netizens pointed out that Faizal failed to mention the name of the store he bought the curry noodles from, adding that there were many such outlets in Putrajaya.
Faizal was appointed to his post last week in a sudden move that raised eyebrows and criticisms.
Malaysians have questioned the need for such an appointment which would come with additional spending for the government, at a time when the nation is grappling with managing costs in all sectors.
In announcing the Tambun MP’s appointment, the Prime Minister’s Office said he would be advising Muhyiddin Yassin on matters relating to community relations, societal communication and socio-economic development.
