Race & Politics

Dr Kua Kia Soong asked BN and PH Will You Continue Race-Based Policies?, published by FMT (via Malaysia-Today) (extracts):

A vocal critic of both Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (HP) has challenged the coalitions to state if race-based preference and discrimination will continue to be a government policy if they win the next general election.

Former opposition MP and human rights activist Kua Kia Soong said the coalitions should also state a deadline in ending such a policy, describing it as the biggest impediment to national unity.

Kua said both BN and PH were made up of race-based political parties to gain votes and popularity.

He singled out PPBM, describing the Umno splinter party as a “race-pure” party competing to champion the Malays.

Right from its party name, Pribumi (PPBM) is an affront to non-Malays. It is 101% a pure racist party.

I hope that answers Dr Kua's very relevant question.

On the BN side, we have UMNO, MCA, MIC which are all race-based political parties. Note there is a difference between a racist party and a race-based party, though the difference is minute and the end result of their activities would be the same, to wit, based on interests of race.

By default, Gerakan and PAS are also race-based parties, the former having mostly Chinese and the latter mostly Malays who of course are all Muslims.

Gerakan started as a very good multiracial party in the late 1960's but lost its original label around the time Lim Keng Yaik took over. Today it is as Chinese as myPPP and PSM are both perceived as Indian parties.

The DAP has long since been accused of being a Chinese party or at best a Chinese-majority party, though its detractors refuse to recognise the party was started by Devan Nair, an Indian, and until his tragic death, was led by the late Karpal Singh, whose children are in the party today.

It is the political party with the MOST number of Indian MP and ADUN, even if MIC were to band up with every Indian MP and ADUN of other parties, all much to the chagrin of MIC, wakakaka. Chinese party?

As for PKR, like Pribumi though in a lighter shade, it is a splinter party of UMNO with a sprinkling of Chinese and Indians who don't have much say.

But nothing beats Pribumi which has as members former UMNO diehards and Perkasa people.

And in asking both political side to state if race-based preference and discrimination will continue to be a government policy if they win the next general election the sad answer is Yes from both sides.
