PETALING JAYA: The use of animal symbols and images during Chinese New Year is something that must be respected by everyone, says the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim).
"Even though animal symbols are used during Chinese New Year, the concept of co-existence (fiqh taa'yush) dictates that all parties need to respect this practice and maintain harmony between all races," said Jakim director-general Tan Sri Othman Mustapha in a statement on Tuesday (Feb 6).
"This is in line with Government's policy of using a wasatiyyah (moderate) approach," he said.
Othman added that all parties needed to exhibit wisdom and fully understand the spirit of co-existence in order to ensure unity among Malaysians of all faiths and ethnicities.
I do NOT trust this bloke, and doubt his sincerity in above statement. I am more inclined in believing he has been told to 'back off' by someone in the PM's department, perhaps, in fact more probably, because of the approaching general elections.
I don't want to sound ungracious to what seems to be a muhibbah (or his Arabic wasatiyyah) statement, but this bloke and his JAKIM department have a notoriety for ignoring non-Muslims' sensitivities, thus I reckon he has been insincere with his above words not actually of his own volition. He has been forced to regurgitate them out, wakakaka.
Why don't I believe him or his goodwill towards non-Muslims?
Why don't I believe him or his goodwill towards non-Muslims?
Recall Auntie Annie Pretzel Dog.
Recall birthday cakes at MacDonald.
Recall JAKIM's halal certificate for chicken eggs to avoid dubious elements in its cleaning and packaging process (just in case there may be porcine DNA a la the alleged Cadbury scandal recently).
Amazing, isn't it? Apart from eggs, I wonder what else will come under the scrutiny of JAKIM's halal hub division? Maybe rice, salt, sugar, pepper, kunyit, etc?
Recall JAKIM employs a most biadab bloke in Zamihan Mat Zin who 'spewed his racial filth on Malaysians of Chinese origin and criticised the sultan as seen on YouTube, where people were shocked by his crudeness and the absurdity of his speech.'
Yes, Zamihan of JAKIM had the most un-Malay biadab-ness and derhaka-ness and sheer effrontery to criticise HM Sultan Johor for the latter's royal dissatisfaction with a Muslim-Only launderette.
Recall a Brooking report which has this to say (extracts):
In an influential essay published in April this year, Brookings scholar Joseph Liow laid out clearly the reasons for the rise of IS in Malaysia: the politicization of Islam by the state.
In particular, both the ruling UMNO (United Malays National Organisation) party and its main opponent, PAS (Parti Islam Se-Malaysia) use political Islam as their weapon of choice.
The use of political Islam is a deliberate move by a group of committed Islamists hidden in the highest level of the Malaysian state and bureaucracy to create a Malay-Islamic state, not just a mere theocratic state. This ideology is unique and separate from the caliphate project pursued by IS. [...]
Who are members of this group pushing for the Malay-Islamic state?
The obvious candidates are JAKIM (Malaysian Islamic Development Department), a department under the prime minister’s office, and its state-level version. JAKIM is a government department tasked with defining, to the minuscule detail, what being a Sunni Muslim means in Malaysia, not only in theological terms but also in practical terms, like how to dress and what types of behaviour are halal (permissible) or haram.
JAKIM, established during the era of Mahathir, prime minister from 1981 to 2003, is so powerful now that even senior UMNO leaders do not dare to confront it. Anyone who questions JAKIM is threatened with sedition.
JAKIM threatened a former MP from UMNO with sedition. The son of a deputy prime minister, he had called for the departmental group to be disbanded.
Police investigated a well-known lawyer for sedition after he tweeted, “Jakim is promoting extremism every Friday. Govt needs to address that if serious about extremism in Malaysia.”
JAKIM writes all Friday sermons for delivery nationwide, and in recent years these sermons have tried to demonize Shiites, Christians and Jews.

after (cross missing) |
JAKIM’s annual budget is about RM 1 billion, paid for by Muslim and non-Muslim taxpayers. Yet JAKIM is largely unaccountable to anyone. Progressive Malaysian Muslims fear the label of being branded anti-Islamic for questioning the work of JAKIM. Others shy away from criticizing JAKIM for fear of being charged with sedition. [...]
Second, support for IS and intolerant Islam is growing in Malaysia due to the deliberate policies of government bodies such as JAKIM and BTN, whose worldview is increasingly becoming even more influential than that promulgated by elected political leaders.
The situation can only get worse until the top UMNO leaders rein in JAKIM and similar bodies. If the government waits for a successful attack before undertaking any serious action, it will simply be too late.
Amin.
Recall what Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki a deputy Minister in the PM’s Department in charge of Islamic affairs (and thus JAKIM) claimed the RM724.6 million set aside for the JAKIM next year was not sufficient to combat “extremist” ideologies like the Islamic State (IS).
JAKIM Director General also said Jakim powerless to contain Islamic State threat, so WTF is it doing wasting taxpayers' money including employing a biadab-ish so-called Islamic extremist bloke like Zamihan Mat Zin?
But wait, according to Dr Asyraf Wajdi, JAKIM's remaining targets (besides IS which its DG confessed JAKIM is powerless to contain) are "liberalism, pluralism, and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community".
Wah such dangerous threats! But is that what JAKIM's proposed RM1 billion is supposed to do. We have a RM1 billion-per-annum-budgeted department just to combat "liberalism, pluralism, and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community"?
Recall also, before I forget, JAKIM has devoted itself to ONE MONTH of investigating into Nur Sajat sexuality.
KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 ― Some Muslim personalities have disputed the authority of the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) that denounced a Muslim woman for owning a pet dog. [...]
Muslim preacher Wan Ji Wan Hussin said that there is no part of the Quran or hadith which says that it is “haram” (forbidden) for Muslims to touch dogs.
“All we have is the Shafie denomination, in which it is stated that a person needs to wash themselves seven times, including once with earth water, if they touch dogs,” he wrote in a Facebook post.
“The issue of repenting does not arise for it does not involve a sin. Jakim does not decide what is a sin,” he added further.
Jakim director-general Tan Sri Othman Mustapha yesterday urged a Malay-Muslim woman, who had adopted a stray dog, to “repent” for her actions.
Wan Ji also referred to a “fatwa” (edict) by renowned Islamic scholar Ibn Abd Al-Barr, who said that touching dogs is something that is “makruh” (offensive act).
“The fatwa does not list this as ‘haram’ (forbidden), but just as ‘makruh’ (offensive act, which is avoidable but not to be punished),” he added.
Lawyer Syahredzan Johan said that Jakim does not have the power to issue any fatwa or to make decisions on any Islamic rules, except in relation to issuing halal certification.
“Jakim is not a state religious body, so its director-general does not have the status of a mufti,” Syahredzan wrote.
“It has no jurisdiction to advise or to warn anyone regarding the rules of raising pet dogs,” he added.
He said that Jakim “should not interfere” in the jurisdiction of the “mufti” (Muslim clerics) and religious councils.
(ii) for interfering in the jurisdiction of the mufti and religious councils,
(iii) worst of all, for blasphemously putting his syiok-sendiri words into the divine mouth of Allah swt.
... to be executed by Siti Kasim, wakakaka, we must ask whether such a bullshitter is capable of muhibbah message about tolerating a dog and a pig for Chinese New Years?
Obviously, JAKIM has to justify its RM1 Billion per annum budget by being deeply involved in earth-shaking national issues such as Nur Sajat sexuality, but ONE MONTH?
The MF* mafulat-ish malarkey has prompted Nur Sajat to ask JAKIM: Am I the country’s biggest problem?.
Lastly but not least, recall that last year MM Online published Jakim doesn’t decide what is sin, Muslim personalities say in dog row which says (extracts):

Apart from 100 lashes of flogging JAKIM D-G Othman Mustapha kau kau for the blasphemous sins of:
(i) issuing fake fatwa when he has no authority to do so,
(i) issuing fake fatwa when he has no authority to do so,

"Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (Jakim) berkata lambang anjing, babi dan haiwan lain dalam kalendar lunar Cina tidak perlu dijadikan isu, selaras dengan konsep “fiqh ta’ayush” atau kebersamaan dalam masyarakat majmuk."
ReplyDelete+1.. saya sokong.
Truly this whole shenanigan wasn't of JAKIM's doing but overraction by the hypermarket chain and further overreaction by those "sensitive" folks compounded with more overreaction by internet commenters & bloggers.
DeleteBasically making Mt Kinabalu out of an anthill. Have any of them actually consulted with JAKIM in the 1st place?
In the United States, the Trump Administration is daily held accountable for the issues under the ambit of the US Federal Government as well as the behaviour of his Administration.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds unfair sometimes, but that is the correct form for democracy.
In Malaysia , Ktemoc's Fucked Up understanding of democracy , all despicable incidents which occur under the Najib administration are the fault of someone who left the Office 15 years ago.
And he dares to lecture his readers about democracy.
wonder how much mahathir has been paying you to be so dedicated wakakaka
DeleteJust balancing out your totally unbalanced worldview.
DeleteWill you agree if jakim were to withdraw 'sijil halal' from non-muslims product producers?
ReplyDeleteJakim is an unconstitutional body and should be immediately dismantled. Thus your question is irrelevant. We will then save the government RM1 Billion a year but more importantly save the peace of mind of many Muslim families
DeleteDismantle jakim then goes the sijil halal.
Deletegood, we never had this nonsense before - let's get back to older muhibbah days
DeleteYes, Yaaaam sengggg in advance
DeleteGranted, as it is now, JAKIM appears to be an unconstitutional body.
DeleteBut the situation can be remedied, perhaps, by positioning JAKIM under the Council of Rulers or Majlis Raja-Raja? It can still be under the responsibility of a Minister, and the PM as its advisor?
The formation of the Council of Rulers is constitutionalised under Article 38, and JAKIM's function should be to support the Council of Rulers in performing its function under Article 38 (6)(d), which is permissible under Article 3 (5) of the Federal Constitution? I would consider Article 38 (6)(d) as a catch-all provision?
Then, JAKIM, could change its name, perhaps, as the Council of Islamic Development Malaysia; a subset of the Council of Rulers. Thus, JAKIM might be constitutional after all?
Still dying to prop up an unconstitutional sh*t house!
DeleteR there more than upholding that zombieic doctrines?
Maybe some covert operations to safeguard the ketuanan legacy?
