Just resign when you next meet the King, Puad tells PM
Puad Zarkashi was silent on the next move by Umno ministers following the decision by the party to stop backing the Perikatan Nasional-led government.
PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin should not ask for the dissolution of Parliament but just tender his resignation, an Umno Supreme Council member said.
According to Puad Zarkashi, this was the only appropriate move for the prime minister to make the next time he is granted an audience by the King, following Umno’s decision to retract its support for the Perikatan Nasional-led (PN) government today.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah grants the prime minister a weekly audience for a pre-Cabinet meeting at Istana Negara.
“Should Muhyiddin have an audience with the King, he should just hand in his resignation,” he told FMT.
Puad, however, refused to comment on whether more federal ministers from Umno would step down, following Shamsul Anuar Nasarah’s decision to resign as the energy and natural resources minister today.
He said that he was keeping mum out of respect for the other Umno Supreme Council members who hold ministerial posts.
“Let them announce it themselves.”
Earlier today in announcing Umno’s decision to retract support for the current administration, party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also said a sufficient number of its MPs had – via statutory declarations (SDs) – withdrawn support for Muhyiddin as the prime minister.
