Mahathir imbued Mukhriz with invincible hatred for Najib

Malaysiakini:

Najib real protagonist behind Harapan and my downfall - Mukhriz

Malaysiakini

Outgoing Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir blamed former premier Najib Abdul Razak as the real protagonist behind his loss and the fall of Pakatan Harapan.

Mukhriz said the directive may have come from Bersatu president and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin through Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin for him to be relinquished as MB.

"But the real protagonist is still the same, it's Najib (above), and the purpose is nothing more than to escape the 1MDB, SRC and other mega-scandals.

"These scandals have defamed Malaysia in the eyes of the world," said Mukhriz at his farewell press conference in Alor Setar today.

"Just look at Riza Aziz's case ... it may be a sign that others from Umno like Najib, his wife Rosmah Mansor and Zahid Hamidi will face the same fate, let's wait and see," he added.

Mukhriz was referring to Najib's defence of his stepson Riza, who entered into a plea bargain over money laundering charges linked to the 1MDB case.

Meanwhile, Mukhriz expressed disappointment in PAS for their involvement in his downfall and Kedah's political crisis.

Mukhriz said PAS has failed to consider his effort in complying with the Islamic party's demands for extra financial support from his administration.

Their request was for the Kedah Pakatan Harapan government to not treat them as merely the opposition, Mukhriz said.

"They (PAS and Umno) asked for additional funds for their service centres.

"For the record, the Kedah Harapan government was among the first states to provide allocation for the opposition."

Mukhriz said he had personally recommended they be given additional funds which were then approved by the state executive council.

"It is clear that they never considered our consideration for the party to receive additional allocation from the state government.

"They failed to consider this when they entertained the intentions of several assemblypersons (from the ruling party's side) to jump ship to be with them," he said.

Mukhriz (above) was referring to six elected representatives from PKR (two) and Bersatu (four) who turned coat to pledge support for Perikatan Nasional and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

The move paved the way for a new government when the six joined another 17 assemblypersons from PAS and Umno, totalling 23, to sign statutory declarations stating they had lost confidence in Mukhriz's leadership.

Mukhriz, your dad has been the one who started frogology

Mukhriz said he had earlier decided to maintain a relationship with Kedah Harapan, so that the government can continue to function.

At the time, the PAS leadership had assured him that they will not pressure Harapan assemblypersons to switch sides, agreeing to allow Mukhriz to continue to be MB until his term ends in 2023.

Mukhriz said he supports his father's - former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad - stand to reject Umno's kleptocracy government.

He rejected PAS' invitation to join Muafakat Nasional and continue to rule as Kedah MB as they were still working with Umno.

"It is better for me to be an opposition than join a political group which is tainted by scandals internationally.

"I am also not about to betray the people's mandate who gave Harapan the chance to rule Kedah in the 2018 national polls.

"I would rather die standing than live on bended knees," said a defiant Mukhriz.

Asked if he would challenge his sacking legally, Mukhriz said, "No, as it is permitted by the State Constitution".

He also declined to respond to claims of purported mega scandals by Najib, saying: "I have not read his statement".

Najib accuses Mukhriz of lying

In an immediate response, Najib took to Facebook and questioned Mukhriz's claims, at the same time accusing him of being a liar.

"Why am I being blamed when this gentleman lost his job?

"Since the movement control order (MCO) started, I just #stayathome, being on Facebook, playing with my cat and eating Super Ring," said Najib who however challenged Mukhriz to prove his alleged involvement.

"Does this gentleman have evidence that I was involved? Please show it.

"Even in this month of Ramadan he dares to tell a lie like this," said Najib.

what kind of PM are you? You've failed to report to me for the last 6 months

  1. Why should anyone take Najib's statement at face value ?
He's already been shown to be a Mega Crook and serial liar.
Only paid propagandists continue to promote the Thoughts of Najib.

  2. We all know Jibby is back in power....he is pulling the strings in Mukriz's second-time ouster, just like in my previous comment Jibby was pulling the strings in securing Riza Aziz's release.....

As usual Clare exposes yet another embarrassing FRAUD, this time by AG Idrus Harun, in his Media Release.

    The "Expose":
The assets being "returned" by Riza Aziz to secure his release from the criminal charges in Malaysia have already been seized by the US DOJ ages ago.

A sure tell-tale sign that Jibby had something to do with this "deal", a copycat of the previous AG Tamby-Pamby who famously (and embarrassingly) exposed Jibby's guilt while trying to clear Jibby's name during a press conference.

But I am sure KT won't be able to comprehend this expose either, because he claims to be ignorant over all things related to 1MDB.

  3. No wonder Toonsie is "confused"....the assets Riza Aziz wants to surrender in order to secure his release from the charges have already been seized by the US DOJ ages ago (as exposed by the ever redoubtable Clare) and the monies recovered returned to the Malaysian Treasury.

Muhyiddin and Tengku Zafrul unashamedly even tried to claim credit for the money returned by the US DOJ, even though all the recovery effort was made by Tommy Thomas, Guanee and Toonsie.

    I quote P Guna, KT's favourite go-to guy...

Giving due credit for 1MDB recoveries

HONESTY, integrity and the desire to give credit where due decree that the right people are recognised for good things that happen to the country. The Muhyiddin government could have earned some precious public goodwill if it did that for recoveries of money stolen from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Instead they took credit for something they should not have - the return by the US of US$300 mil or some RM1.3 bil in monies from the sale of assets in the US bought with money stolen from 1MDB.

This brings the total recovered and repatriated to US$620 mil or RM2.7 bil - a sizeable amount of money but still just a fraction of the US$4.5 bil (RM19.6 bil) the US Department of Justice or DOJ said was embezzled from 1MDB by Jho Low between 2009 and 2015, implicating also then prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.

In a 2015 report, then classified secret under the Official Secrets Act, Malaysia’s auditor-general said that some US$7 bil or RM30.5 bil could not be accounted for. The RM2.7 bil so far recovered represents under 10% of the 1MDB money which went missing.

The public unhappiness is over who is credited with getting this money back. Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin expressed gratitude to the US government, in particular to its embassy here. But he added more.

“I would also like to commend Malaysia’s minister of finance and the attorney-general for their role in the negotiation process. 1MDB asset recovery efforts are ongoing, and the government will continue to work with the US, the DOJ and other governments to recover and repatriate more 1MDB monies in the future,” Muhyiddin said.

The question is which finance minister and which AG. Sources tell me that a meeting and announcement had been scheduled for the same purpose on Feb 19 with finance minister then, Lim Guan Eng, his political secretary Tony Pua, the US ambassador Kamala Lakhdhir and then AG Tan Sri Tommy Thomas to announce the return of monies.

But for various reasons, including waiting for a larger amount of money, the meeting was postponed. In the meantime, the backdoor government move started, Thomas resigned and Lim and Pua were out of government.

The point is, this return of monies from the sale of assets bought with money stolen from 1MDB was a process that was started by the Pakatan Harapan government after it gained power in May 2018, with the main role played by Thomas as AG.
