Prominent Republicans throw weight behind Biden

WASHINGTON: More than two dozen former Republican US lawmakers, including former senator Jeff Flake, endorsed Democrat Joe Biden for president as the Republican National Convention opened on Monday, a rebuke to President Donald Trump by members of his own party.

The 27 former members of Congress joined a “Republicans for Biden” initiative organised by the Biden campaign to encourage Republican support for the Democrat, the Biden campaign said.

They cited Trump’s “corruption, destruction of democracy, blatant disregard for moral decency, and urgent need to get the country back on course” as reasons for the move, according to a Biden campaign statement.

“I was a Republican long before the president ever called himself one, and I’ll be a Republican long after identifying as such is no longer useful to him,” Flake said in a 16-minute video explaining his decision to endorse Biden and vote for a Democratic presidential nominee for the first time.

“Given what we have experienced over the past four years, it’s not enough just to register our disapproval of the president. We need to elect someone else in his place, someone who will stop the chaos and reverse the damage.”

The former lawmakers are only the latest Republican group to endorse Biden and oppose Trump in the Nov 3 election.

Separately, the Lincoln Project, one of the most prominent Republican-backed groups opposing Trump, said on Monday that former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele had joined it as a senior adviser.

“The chair behind the Resolute Desk has always been bigger than any political party,” Steele said in a statement.

“Sadly, we have witnessed its occupant devolve into preying upon fears and resentments with narcissism that nurtures only chaos and confusion. Leadership is needed now more than ever.”

On Sunday, one of the group’s co-founders, George Conway, and his wife, Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway, both stepped down from their political roles, citing a need to spend time with family.

Last week, 73 former Republican national security officials, including former chiefs of the FBI and CIA, endorsed Biden while calling Trump unfit to serve.

Opposition groups object to Trump’s alienation of US allies abroad and his leadership at home, including his response to the coronavirus pandemic that has killed over 176,000 Americans.

The Trump campaign has described the groups as disaffected former officials “trying to take down the duly elected President of the US”.

  2. This is the way democracy is supposed to work. If you don't support your party leader you can campaign publicly against him in the open, no backdoor dirty shit, secret meetings, public denials etc and the final outcome determined via a democratic vote by the people.

  3. AmeriKKKans are very fortunate they can vote to throw out a leader if he is found to be incompetent or irrational.

CCP citizens have to put up with plenty of corrupt and incompetent but unreplaceable apparatchks.

In Malusia, voters thought they had voted out the Thief government, only to be replaced by Thief Mark 2 and now Thief Mark 3. If GE15 is held soon, likely Thief Mark 4 in charge, with Thief back in power.

    1. Corruption?

In China, the chance for an old moneyed mfer to practice his old undertable trades would see him squating in gaol for a long long time.

      Wakakakakaka…

"with plenty of corrupt and incompetent but unreplaceable apparatchks"

      !!!

How about the immediate dismissal of Hubei governor, whom u claimed has been made to disappear? That's yr zombieic claim to unreplaceable apparatchks!

How about the fight against covid-19, where many nations r still marching to their 2nd & 3rd waves? U have a better definition for incompetency, using yr f*cked demoNcratic understanding!

Another parrot of the echo chamber, the Monstrous WhiteAss Kisser of the same BlindMiceClub : " AmeriKKKans are very fortunate they can vote to throw out a leader if he is found to be incompetent or irrational."

Both blithely trotted out this much vaunted DEMOCRACY, with the 3rd blind mice member as usual vomits out his incoherent, rude inane rantings.

I like to ask this question : WHAT DEMOCRACY ?

    1. Gerrymandering - the United States is alone among major democratic countries in that, in most states, politicians govern the redistricting process. ( go google 'Congressional Gerrymandering' )

    2. Disenfranchisement - 10% of Americans who should be eligible to vote are stopped from doing so by expensive, opaque registration processes. ( check out 'The Threat to U.S. Elections You Don’t Know About But Should')

3.Vote Hacking - 15 US states use easily hackable voting machines with no audit trail. (check out "Voting Machines Have Been Easily Hackable For More Than A Decade")

    4. Corporate Propaganda - 90% of the media in the United States is owned and operated by six conglomerates, who in turn are beholden to their corporate advertisers. (Propaganda In Today's Media ). There are 1500 newspapers, 1100 magazines, 9000 radio stations, 1500 TV stations, 2400 publications....all owned by ONLY 6 Corporations - GE, Newscorp, Disney, Viacom, Time Warner, CBS.

Any one of these above would be considered as being serious, extreme threats to democracy in the USA, but put them together, you’re looking at a sham democracy.

“Democracy” has not existed in the US for quite some time, if ever. For over 30 years now, it has been corporate money that has decided their elections, who would run their government, and what their government would do in the legislature. “The People” only choose which of the candidates of the wealthy class, will carry out the instructions from the 1%, who actually own the country. It is nothing but the illusion of “Democracy”. US of A is nothing but an oligarchy of the rich, but likes to parade as a Democracy, all with the conniving propaganda of the MSM.

What happens is that a candidate cannot run for an important office, without the support of the wealthy class. Because the financial support of the wealthy class is fundamental to the chance that a candidate will be elected, it follows that the only candidates who are capable of getting the nomination of one of the two establishment parties, are those who are approved by that wealthy class. And the only ones they will approve, are those who promise to advance the agenda of the wealthy, when they are elected.

When Bernie Sanders ran on public donations ( Note this..on PUBLIC DONATIONS ), the media completely refused to cover him, then when that failed, they dismissed him as a naive idealist who could never win over swing voters even though he had more support with independents than Hilary, and then when people still voted for Bernie, these independent supporters' names started disappearing from voter registration lists, ballot papers started going missing. It seems that if someone actually threatens the corporate system in any meaningful way, they get shut down with any means necessary.

So wakey wakey up, moronic blind mice...stop brainless parroting about deformed democracy and freedom.

And read here how many Americans actually vote :

    https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2016/11/10/13587462/trump-election-2016-voter-turnout

Trump was elected by a little more than a quarter of eligible voters. A lot of Americans don't vote.

Johann Goethe said it well : " None are more helplessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free ".
