PKR completes new state chiefs list - Nurul Izzah to lead Penang, Kedah, Perlis

PKR has rounded up a line-up of its new state chiefs to face the 15th general election with vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar being appointed to lead the party's GE15 charge in three northern states - Penang, Kedah and Perlis.

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim announced Nurul Izzah's appointment today, expressing confidence that his daughter's experience would help strengthen all the states' leadership as part of the party's GE15 preparations.

"In Peninsular Malaysia, I have decided to give this job to the deputy president and vice-presidents.

"For Penang, Kedah and Perlis, Nurul Izzah will be leading the states to prepare a movement to face the general election," said Anwar at a press conference in Penang after meeting with PKR division chiefs from the state, as well as Kedah and Perlis.

Anwar said he also explained to the division leaders that only Sabah PKR chief Sangkar Rasam and Sarawak PKR chief Roland Engan - were appointed by their respective state division heads.

He added that the appointment of PKR state chiefs in Peninsular Malaysia can be reviewed after GE15.

Separately, Anwar earlier met with PKR division chiefs from Perak and named PKR vice-president Chang Lih Kang, who is also Tanjong Malim MP, as the new state chief.

Heading into GE15, Anwar had broken convention in the appointment of PKR state chiefs from among the deputy president and four vice-presidents, where in the past the position would be filled by one person following consultation with elected division heads.

The full line-up of PKR state chiefs in the peninsula aside from today's announcements comprises Rafizi Ramli (Federal Territories and Johor); Aminuddin Harun (Negeri Sembilan and Malacca); Amirudin Shari (Selangor and Pahang); Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (Kelantan and Terengganu).

The state chapter head is a significant position because it will have some influence on the choice of election candidates.

It also indicates the party's nominee for the position of the state’s chief executive (menteri besar or chief minister).

Currently, the PKR state chapter heads for Selangor and Negeri Sembilan are both serving as the menteri besar.
