Anwar puzzled that some ‘corrupt leaders’ were celebrating Najib’s incarceration
Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said it was an ‘open secret’ that some leaders had amassed billions of ringgit, which had been highlighted in the Pandora and Panama papers.
PETALING JAYA: Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said he found it “odd” that some leaders were celebrating Najib Razak’s incarceration when they themselves were equally corrupt.
Graft, he said, was not exclusive to a single individual.
“When I look at the reaction to Najib’s sentencing, I see some leaders who are just as corrupt saying ‘that’s good’. And I find it odd,” he told reporters after attending a seminar here.
And while the PKR president however did not identify anyone in particular, he said it was an “open secret” that some leaders had amassed riches of billions of ringgit of which had been highlighted in the Pandora and Panama papers.
Yet, some of these leaders were now attacking Najib, he said.
Anwar said some of Najib’s critics should not act as if they were “clean” or as if they did nothing wrong.
“So don’t act like you guys are great.”
