KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Najib Razak has arrived at the High Court here for his 1MDB trial.
Najib was seen alighting from a police SUV in a grey suit and tie at about 8.45am, with the vehicle which brought him to court accompanied by a prisons department van.
He then entered the courtroom, which has since been barricaded.
Members of the public have been barred from waiting outside the courtroom by police personnel.
Najib is facing four charges of using his position as then prime minister to obtain bribes totalling RM2.3 billion from 1MDB funds, and 21 charges of money laundering involving the same amount.
He was sent to Kajang Prison on Tuesday after the Federal Court upheld his conviction and sentence of 12 years’ jail and RM210 million fine in the SRC International case.
A five-member bench led by Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat dismissed his appeal to set aside the conviction and sentence imposed by the Kuala Lumpur High Court on July 28, 2020.
Najib had on Dec 8, 2021, failed to overturn the ruling after the Court of Appeal upheld the High Court’s decision.
