MOSCOW, Aug 27 — A top ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin said yesterday that Moscow would not stop its military campaign in Ukraine even if Kyiv formally renounced its aspirations to join Nato.

Former President Dmitry Medvedev, now deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, also said in a French television interview that Russia was prepared to hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky subject to certain conditions.

Even before the February invasion, Moscow made clear Ukrainian membership of Nato was unacceptable to it.

“Renouncing its participation in the North Atlantic alliance is now vital, but it is already insufficient in order to establish peace,” Medvedev told LCI television in quotes reported by Russian news agencies.

Russia, he said, would continue the campaign until its goals had been achieved. Putin says he wants to “denazify” Ukraine. Kyiv and the West say this is a baseless pretext for a war of conquest.

Russia and Ukraine held several rounds of talks after the invasion began, but they made no progress and there are few prospects for a resumption.

“This (talks) will depend on how events unfold. We were ready before to meet (Zelensky),” Medvedev said.

In his comments, he also said US weapons already supplied to Ukraine — like HIMARS multiple-rocket launchers — did not yet pose a substantial threat.

But that could change, he said, if US sent weapons could hit targets at longer distances.

“It means that when this sort of missile flies 70 km, that is one thing,” he said. “But when it’s 300-400 km, that is another, now that would be a threat directly to the territory of the Russian Federation.” — Reuters

  1. RuZia is already destroying Ukraine - it in only right for Ukraine to hit back at Russian territory in self-defence.

Comment: he forgot that all's fair in love and war. He sounds like a crybaby. He is saying "I can hit any part of Ukraine but you cannot hit beyond 70 km into Russia"

Anyway, this, to me is a senseless war. It started because a big bully thinks it should control the neighbourhood. If the big bully had any issues, war was and is not the answer.

Have the Russian ever forbidden the US/NATO to supply the long range missiles to Ukraine?

The withholding of such weaponry by US/NATO is purely the demoNcratic consideration of avoiding the range of the Ukraine crisis extending outside Ukraine!

Perhaps only a love puppy would read i~tocwhat u have said NOT so much.

  3. The outcome of this war is written on the wall, only the wilfully blind refuse to see the facts on the ground. Russia is winning this war and likely to annex large swathes of Ukraine. And Putin's already high rating at home will go up even higher.

What's left of Ukraine after Putin is done with it, will just be a rump state which will fall into a deep depression, with mountain of debts that will take at least 80 to 100 years to pay off. This remaining rump state of Ukraine will be ruled by a monstrous crimino-fascist coterie, turning its impoverished citizens into slave-labour stream to earn foreign remittance in Germany and other big European big business. Their underage Ukrainian girls will probably be sold off in sex trafficking and be found in German brothels.

Not only will the newly completed Nord Stream 2 never ever be operational, the Nord Stream 1 will be sealed shut too, the economic nexus between Russia and Europe will be severed forever.

With BRICS Plus ( 5 new members of Iran, Egypt. Argentina, Turkey, Saudi Arabia ), and the plan of having their own new world reserve currency, the Global South is now coming on its own, at long last.

A New World Order....Multipolarity here we come !
