Kedah MB expects Gunung Inas to heal naturally in 30 years
The Kedah government does not intend to reforest damaged parts of Gunung Inas in Kedah to allow for natural reforestation.
Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor expects the process to take 30 years.
"God willing, the trees will grow by themselves. (Humans) did not create the jungles in Kedah. God did. Therefore, how can we restore the jungles (ourselves)?
"No matter how we try to restore (the area), it has become a waterway. In the future, it will still be a waterway.
"It is the same in other areas such as Pahang and Terengganu... but the press focuses on Gunung Inas, perhaps because it is popular," said Sanusi, according to Harian Metro.

Sanusi said this in Alor Setar yesterday when asked about plans to reforest Gunung Inas following the deadly July 4 floods which killed three and affected 12 villages in the Baling district.
Meanwhile, Sanusi revealed that the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) would construct two "sabo dams" on Gunung Inas, and the project will be launched soon.
"Sabo dams" or "check dams" are designed to slow the flow of water and trap debris.
He said a similar dam was already operational at Gunung Jerai, also in Kedah.
