Federal Court denies Najib’s bid to postpone case

Najib Razak is attempting to quash his conviction for abuse of power, money laundering and criminal breach of trust over SRC International funds amounting to RM42 million.

PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Court has denied Najib Razak’s bid to postpone his SRC International appeal, with Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat stating that the appeal must proceed as scheduled.

“We will start the appeal (hearing) on Thursday,” she said.

Earlier today, lead counsel Hisyam Teh Poh Teik requested a postponement of up to “three to four months” as he said that the defence needed more time to prepare for the case, which they took over less than a month ago.

The court previously fixed 10 days – Aug 15 to 26 – to hear the former prime minister’s final appeal to quash his conviction for abuse of power, money laundering and criminal breach of trust over SRC funds amounting to RM42 million.

His conviction was upheld by the Court of Appeal on Dec 8 last year, as was his 12-year jail sentence and RM210 million fine.

However, Najib was released on bail pending his final appeal before the Federal Court.

  1. Wooh...that is rather hard-headed of the Court. I guess the Court is a bit pissed-off with Najib and team's serial attempt after attempt after attempt to delay after delay after delay the proceedings.

I had thought it fair if the Court allowed a limited postponement of the hearing, maybe a few weeks ( 3 - 4 months postponement as requested by Najib's team is Too Much to stomach)

  2. Najib's Court of Appeals verdict was pronounced January 27 , 2022.

    That was 7 months ago.
Najib and team should have started working on the Federal Court appeal starting the very next morning, January 28, 2022.

His Team should be ready to conduct the appeal tomorrow morning August 17, and so it is.

Nothing less would be expected from any ordinary Ahmad, Ah Beng or Ariappan. There cannot be one law for Ahmad, Ah Beng or Ariappan and a different law for Najib Razak.

I now expect Zaid Ibrahim to carry out his "Nuclear Option".
Discharge his law firm, and leave Najib unrepresented of the Court insists on proceedings. Then the public may side with Najib to allow him time to find a New legal team
