KUALA LUMPUR – Son-in-law to the prime minister Jovian Mandagie has refuted a barrage of claims that he escaped the Saturday floods via a government helicopter, saying he is nothing like that.

In his Instagram story, fashion designer Jovian said he did not use government assets to save himself while explaining that he could not use the commercial helicopter to save others who were stranded.

“I did not use government assets. Lillahi taala, there is no way I used things that are not mine. You can insult me all you want, go ahead, but it is slander.

“Why didn’t I use the helicopter to help the public? Because it is a commercial chopper, you cannot open the door and drop off help or pick up victims.”

He added that if he wanted to show off, he would have posed and made an OOTD (outfit of the day) video.

“Those who know me, you know I’m nothing like that.”

He also refuted allegations that he started helping flood victims after the helicopter controversy went viral on Twitter.

He said he is sincere in helping, citing his previous efforts in donating PPEs, masks to Palestine, the white flag movement and other disasters.

“There are better things to be done to help people out there. Please do better to help the nation than bashing what is not right about me.

“It is true that many are suffering. If anyone wants to go to the ground to distribute food, ‘roger’ (contact) me.”

Jovian came under fire from netizens after posting that he managed to get to safety and reached home.

Later, he also shared that his company’s warehouse was affected by the floods, saying deliveries to customers would be halted for a few days. – The Vibes, December 20, 2021
