WCEF: Najib brushes off tycoon's embarassment, points at Dr M links

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has brushed off a tycoon's embarrassment over his appearance at the World Chinese Economic Forum (WCEF) yesterday.

Instead, Najib implied that property magnate Lee Kim Yew was "not satisfied" because of the latter's links to Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He furnished Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) records showing that Lee and Mahathir were partners in the Palace of the Golden Horses hotel and private jet company Flyjet.

Yesterday, Najib (above) delivered the keynote address at the WCEF. He was also the guest of honour during the gala dinner and award ceremony.

Lee, who was among the WCEF's founders, said having the former premier involved was a "huge embarrassment". However, he noted that he was no longer associated with the forum.

In July last year, Najib was convicted by the High Court on three counts of criminal breach of trust, three counts of money laundering and one count of abuse of power.

This was after prosecutors proved that Najib pocketed RM42 million from state-owned SRC International Sdn Bhd.

On Dec 7, the Court of Appeal upheld the conviction and remarked that Najib's action was not done in the nation's interest but instead caused a "national embarrassment".

Najib will seek a review of the decision in the Federal Court.

  1. So the World Chinese Economic Forum has allowed itself to be hijacked by Najib for his political purposes ?

This is a very dangerous turn for the Chinese business community in Malaysia , which has historically maintained an apolitical stance.

Even though they have no choice but to work with the Government of the Day.

Remember, no Government leader lasts forever.
