Zaid Ibrahim Back To Wisdom And Sound Arguments

https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2022/09/17/be-open-to-power-sharing-after-ge15-zaid-tells-umno

Zaid called Umno to collaborate, share power with other parties after GE
Umno must change if it wanted to do well at the elections
including collaborating with parties outside BN
(this collaboration to be forged) after the GE
Let’s do it with those who harbour same ideals about economy, education, health
if we need to enter power-sharing arrangement where is the harm in that?
We can sit together in government.
That would show our maturity and sincerity, give confidence to foreign investors

Zaid called all political parties to give priority to strengthening nation.
work together to build strong, stable government
put together policies beneficial to rakyat
Why continue to speak the same way as in 1957
my rights, your rights; my language, your language; my religion, your religion?
move on to a new narrative which strengthens this nation, he said

Zaid called for peace and unity to be jealously guarded.
nation cannot progress without a consensus
without every race uniting to find the road to goodness
we must take on board all important points of view,” he said

Zaid urged DAP to shed all comments laced with prejudice towards Umno
“such chatter can only hurt Malaysia”
such talk “suggests that all Malays are corrupt”.
He said Malay people would consider such statements inflammatory.
Umno members held up slogans such as “No Anwar, No DAP”
other Umno leaders said such position irrelevant in light of UMNO/PH MOU

Zaid urged Umno to adopt new approach to win over rakyat
Umno, too, must change if it wants to do well at the general election.
we lost because we were too slow to change
deaf to the rakyat and too comfortable with old narratives

My Comments :

What else can I say?

This is my good friend Zaid Ibrahim talking sense again.

Lets not forget that in September 2008 Zaid Ibrahim who was then the Law Minister became the first ever Malay Minister who resigned in protest from the Cabinet (under Abdullah Badawi) over the ISA arrest of Seputeh MP Theresa Kok (DAP), Sin Chiew reporter Tan Hoon Cheng and Raja Petra Kamaruddin.

Here is the news from 2008:

Don’t use ISA, says Zaid

KOTA BARU: De facto Law Minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim (pic) stuck his neck out against the Government by condemning the use of the Internal Security Act (ISA) against civilians.

He urged the Government to revert to the original purpose of the law, which was to curb communism.

“It is time for the Government to go back to the original spirit of the ISA and it should only be used on armed terrorists or those out to topple the Government by force.

“I am not calling for a repeal of the ISA but for it to be used only when there is a real threat to national security and not on civilians,” he told a press conference at his home in Pasir Hor here yesterday.

He said he was also willing to step down as a minister if his actions were deemed to have undermined the Government and Cabinet.

..but on the matter of the ISA, I am against imposing it on civilians. I joined his administration to make changes and everybody knows, I am also for a more open-form of press reporting.”

Zaid was commenting on the arrests of Sin Chew Daily reporter Tan Hoon Cheng, Selangor senior executive councillor Teresa Kok and Malaysia Today news portal editor Raja Petra Kamaruddin on Friday under the Act. Tan was released on Saturday.

  1. I treat the September 2022 version of Zaid Ibrahim as an UMNO operative - an untrustworthy agent of an untrustworthy party..

  2. I now understand why Zaid was vehemently condemning the decision of the Federal Court with regard to Najib's SRC case.

Now that he is "home" again like the prodigal son, it would be interesting to see how long he can or will stay.

Perhap the Law Minister role again for this long lost son?
