PETALING JAYA: DAP’s Charles Santiago has no plans to vacate his Klang parliamentary seat, despite a report claiming he will be replaced by Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah as a candidate in the next general election (GE15).

In a brief Facebook post, Santiago expressed his gratitude to people who spoke in support of him after The Star reported that he was going to make way for Ean Yong in GE15.

“I have urgent meetings to attend to plan for emergency response and aid distribution in the event of further floods during this monsoon season. And that includes a flood preparedness briefing in the first week of October.

“I promise to read the article in full and respond once we have finalised our flood mitigation plans. This is my focus right now, as floods have huge consequences on peoples’ lives and livelihood,” he said.

Yesterday, The Star quoted a DAP source as saying Ean Yong, the three-term Seri Kembangan assemblyman, would be fielded as a candidate for Klang in place of Santiago.

The report claimed that 28 DAP branches in Selangor supported this and that the deal was “90% done”.

Santiago is the three-term MP for Klang having first won the seat for DAP in 2008.
