Johor exco member apologises for driving on emergency lane, summons received

JOHOR BARU: A Johor executive councillor has apologised for a traffic-related incident involving his official vehicle, footage of which went viral on social media.

State health and unity committee chairman Ling Tian Soon, who is also Yong Peng assemblyman, admitted that it was his car which was seen driving along the emergency lane of a road.

"We admit our mistake and apologise when we are wrong. I sincerely apologise over the matter and I have also told my driver to apologise to the public," he said.

Ling said he was headed to an event in Batu Pahat and seated in the back of the car.

"My driver has been called by the police to give his statement and has also received a summons," he said.

In a statement, Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah said the police received the viral video involving a black car at about 11pm on Wednesday (Sept 14).

"Following an investigation, we found that the incident took place at about 9.45am on Monday (Sept 12) at the Tongkang Pechah, Batu Pahat road.

"Further checks found that the car belongs to the Johor state secretary for the use of the Yong Peng assemblyman. The driver of the car had his statement recorded on Friday (Sept 16) and a summons was issued," he said in a statement.
