PETALING JAYA: Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman claims that “100% of Umno grassroots” in his constituency want him to defend his parliamentary seat at the next general election.
Tajuddin said the Pasir Salak Umno division, which was led by him, had already named him as its candidate for the seat.
“I don’t want to toot my own horn, but you can evaluate my performance as the division chief all this while based on the facts,” he said in a Berita Harian report.
In June, Tajuddin was removed as an Umno Supreme Council member. Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reportedly said he was dropped from the top leadership for being critical of the party.
The controversial MP later called on Zahid to step down as Umno president and accused him of making decisions for the party unilaterally.
Tajuddin also claimed he was a “living witness” to Zahid’s efforts to get Umno MPs to sign statutory declarations backing opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister.
Tajuddin confirmed that his division had nominated Perak Wanita Umno chief Dr Wan Norashikin Wan Noordin to defend her Kampung Gajah state seat, while the deputy chief of Pasir Salak Umno, Khairul Azwan Harun, has been nominated to contest the Sungai Manik state constituency.
