Khairuddin blasts Anwar over his past, says he’s no reformer

Pejuang’s federal territories chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan said Malaysians should support Dr Mahathir Mohamad for a third term as prime minister.

PETALING JAYA: A Pejuang leader has blasted opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim over his past, saying that Anwar is not qualified to talk about political reform.

Pejuang’s federal territories chief, Khairuddin Abu Hassan, said Anwar should change his “bad and perverse” habits first, before talking about political reform.

Khairuddin claimed that from the beginning of Anwar’s political career in Umno, he only had greedy ambitions to become prime minister.

“I still remember the words of the late Umno veteran Haji Sulaiman Palestine who stated in 1996 that as long as Anwar is in politics, the political landscape of the country will be chaotic,” Khairuddin said in a statement.

He also said Anwar would not leave a political legacy behind. “The only legacy displayed by Anwar is that he went to prison twice for sodomy and it is very likely that this will happen again,” he said.

Khairuddin’s attack on Anwar follows an exchange between Anwar and Pejuang chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad in which the two former partners had accused each other of failing to carry out political reforms.

Anwar had said on Thursday that Pakatan Harapan (PH) could not proceed on reforms because the coalition was led by a “non-reformist” leader (a reference to Mahathir, who was then PH chairman).

Mahathir, in response, said earlier today that PH’s tenure in office was too short, and that the coalition had come into power with only a simple majority, lacking the means to make constitutional amendments.

Khairuddin urged Malaysians to support Mahathir for a third term as prime minister, saying Mahathir would be able to repair the economy and “redeem the dignity of the nation”.
