SHAH ALAM: DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook has called for greater compromise between Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties on seat negotiations ahead of the upcoming general election (GE15).

DAP launched its election machinery today, with Loke presenting PH flags to the party’s state chiefs.

Loke said negotiations for seats were ongoing, with discussions held every week, adding that it was expected to be completed soon.

“During the negotiation process, there must be a spirit of ‘give and take’ as well as a focus on the ‘winnability’ factor,” he said in his speech at DAP’s special congress.

“As the elders advise, ‘those who ask should not be greedy, while those who give should not be stingy’.”

Earlier this month, DAP organising secretary Steven Sim said ongoing seat negotiations among PH component parties were progressing well, with “four to five states” already finalised.

Meanwhile, Loke stressed that fighting corruption and encouraging integrity must be at the heart of PH’s election manifesto for GE15.

“DAP opposes corruption, regardless of race or religion. We despise the corrupt no matter their names, be it Najib (Razak) or Jho Low (Low Taek Jho).

“Those who receive and those who give bribes are both wrong,” he said alluding to a remark by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang last month that non-Muslims were at the root of corruption.

Loke also called for PH to present a united front in its approach to GE15.
