Zahid fears ‘cover up’ in report on Thomas’

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says the report by the special task force which investigated allegations made in former attorney-general Tommy Thomas’ memoir must be made public.

PETALING JAYA: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi fears that the Cabinet may try to “cover up” the final report of the special task force which investigated allegations made in former attorney-general Tommy Thomas’ memoir as some Cabinet members were part of the previous Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration.

Commenting on a news report that the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) had allegedly recommended that the task force’s report not be made public, Zahid said he hoped the allegations were just rumours.

“We also hope that the Cabinet, which will be presented the report in the near future, will not cover up certain facts,” he said in a Facebook post.

“This concern arises because we understand that some members of the existing coalition government are former members of the PH government.

“The Cabinet members involved worked together for 22 months and were in ‘consensus’ with Thomas, so it is feared that there may be matters which they feel they must cover up.”

Zahid stressed that the report must be made public as Malaysians need to be informed about the claims outlined in Thomas’ memoir such as abuse of power, interference in the judiciary, and politically motivated prosecutions.

Law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar told FMT last week the report will be presented to the Cabinet tomorrow.

“It’s up to the Cabinet to decide whether it should be made public or not,” he said.
