Zahid dismisses Muhyiddin’s call for a Bumiputera Dong Zong
BN CHAIRPERSON and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has dismissed any involvement in creating a bumiputera NGO umbrella body akin to Dong Zong, a proposal suggested by Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Zahid also criticised leaders he referred to as “gila talak” or obsessed with power but did not elaborate further.
“I do not want to be involved with any gila talak leaders,” he said briefly during a press conference after the Selangor BN Convention in Shah Alam today.
Zahid was responding to Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin’s proposal yesterday to establish a body similar to Dong Zong for the bumiputera.
Muhyiddin had suggested the initiative to provide clearer leadership in advocating for Malay-bumiputera interests.
Zahid made his remarks during a press conference at the Selangor BN Convention in Shah Alam.
He also revealed that Arau MP Shahidan Kassim was among the PN lawmakers who approached him about BN leaving the Madani government.
Zahid noted that Shahidan was not the only one and shared these developments confidentially with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to prevent similar attempts in the future.
This follows claims by Bersatu’s Hamzah Zainudin that such meetings occurred informally without PN leadership’s mandate. Shahidan defended the outreach, saying it was openly discussed.
Separately, Zahid confirmed that Umno reinstated former Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman’s membership after multiple appeals and demonstrated loyalty.
Zahid also hinted that other former members may be welcomed back if they show similar commitment.— Dec 1, 2024
