PETALING JAYA
A political aide to Anwar Ibrahim has hit out at a senior Gabungan Parti Sarawak leader who said the state should be free from interference from national political parties like PKR.

Kamil Munim, who is the political secretary to Anwar in his capacity as finance minister, said the statement by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah smacked of arrogance.

Kamil said it should be left entirely to Sarawakians to decide on the future of their state, even if it meant national parties governing it.

“Let Sarawakians choose and decide what is best for their state. Such remarks by Karim are merely a display of arrogance,” the deputy PKR Youth chief said in a post on X.

Yesterday, Karim said the governance of Sarawak must remain in the hands of Sarawakians without interference from political parties such as Umno, PKR, DAP and PAS.

He said Sarawak-based parties like PBB and other GPS components can determine the state’s future without having to rely on national parties.

GPS, which is part of the unity government at the federal level, holds a commanding 80 seats in the 82-seat Sarawak assembly. The opposition comprises two assemblymen from Sarawak DAP.
