2 soldiers charged with
raping girl, aged 10
They each face a minimum prison sentence of 10 years and whipping.
Mahadi Ismail, 39, and Aizat Hakim Mohammad, 20, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out to them before Judge Ahmad Bazli Bahruddin, Berita Harian reported.
Mahadi and Hakim were charged with raping the victim, who was then 10 years and eight months old, at a house in Bachok in April 2023.
They were charged under Section 376(2)(e) of the Penal Code, which provides for a minimum prison sentence of 10 years and whipping.
Deputy public prosecutor Kamarul Hasyime Rosli told the court that no bail should be offered as the victim was a child.
However, lawyer Firdaus Zainal Abidin, who represented both the accused, appealed for bail to be granted as his clients had cooperated with the police and surrendered to them.
“One of my clients is about to retire next year and has to support four children who are still in school, while my other client has just completed his training and will report to work tomorrow,” he said.
The court fixed bail at RM10,000 and ordered both accused to report to the nearest police station every month.
They were also ordered not to disturb or make any contact with the victim and witnesses.
