PAS, Bersatu don’t really
care about Najib, says
Umno man
Ghulam Muzaffar Gulam Mustakim questions the timing of the PAS-led rally on Jan 6 in support of Najib Razak.
Federal Territories Umno information chief Ghulam Muzaffar Gulam Mustakim said it was strange that leaders from both parties had begun speaking in support of Najib, when they previously campaigned for him to be prosecuted and thrown in jail.
Ghulam Muzaffar said it was evident that neither PAS nor Bersatu actually cared about the former prime minister’s case, but were simply trying to make political gains.
“At the start of his cases, they kept a distance from Najib, but the script appears to have changed.
“They probably realise they would lose out politically if they stayed away from Najib since he is still held in high regard by the majority of Malaysians.
“It’s not that I disagree with their support, but my question is: why now?” the Batu Umno chief said in a statement.
Ghulam Muzaffar also claimed that the narrative of upholding the rule of law and the Federal Constitution, or seeking a political “ceasefire” between Umno and PAS was telling of hidden agendas.
“Their sincerity can be questioned,” he added.
PAS’s rally at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya will be held on the same day that the Court of Appeal hears Najib’s application on a purported supplementary decree placing him under house arrest.
Wanita Bersatu chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin last Saturday said that the party would not stand in the way of any of its members who wished to attend the rally.
Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz also said that party leaders and members were free to join the rally as this was in the spirit of “national reconciliation”.
Bersatu was co-founded by Muhyiddin Yassin after he was sacked as Umno deputy president in 2016. He had been critical of Najib, the then Umno president and prime minister, particularly over the 1MDB scandal.
