MCA president Wee Ka Siong today urged BN leaders to show a united front so they won’t get bullied by other parties.

Speaking at BN’s 50th-anniversary celebration in Kuala Lumpur, the Ayer Hitam MP elaborated how he was pushed into a corner by a fellow government MP for correcting Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli last month.

Wee said he was only pointing out discrepancies in Rafizi’s data about the Central Database Hub, otherwise known as Padu, but ended up being referred to the Parliamentary Rights and Freedoms Committee by DAP’s Kampar MP Chong Zhemin.

“This is why I say that we, BN must not let ourselves get bullied. Do not let others bully us.

“We have been in the government, we have also been in the opposition, it’s okay. We have to respect differences in opinion. But does this mean that my right to speak up has also been taken away?” he questioned.

Wee said he would stand up to defend MPs from BN component parties if they come under attack from other leaders.

“This is the real spirit of brotherhood in BN. ‘Bagai aur dengan tebing’ (helping each other). We are brothers. If we can show our strength and solidarity.

“When people want to bully Wee Ka Siong or Saravanan, they will think first because they see us strong together,” Wee said in his speech.

Fight back

Last month, the MCA leader was referred to the committee after he accused Rafizi of misleading the Dewan Rakyat. Wee had argued that Rafizi gave two differing figures regarding the costs that Putrajaya had to spend on Padu.

Speaking to reporters after today’s event, Wee elaborated that his speech was to call all BN leaders to fight back whenever others try to bully any of them.

While several fellow BN MPs had expressed their support for him, Wee said they must show a united front.

“If it’s clear that someone is wrong, we must tell them. If we just keep quiet, then it will be a problem,” he said.

Wee, a former transport minister, also called out a certain BN leader who “mengagungkan” (glorifying) other parties.

He reminded the unnamed leader that he had won his seat on the BN platform and should prioritise the coalition instead.

“This is a unity government, which was formed because no one had the majority after the last election.

“So we are only carrying this mandate until the end of this term. I think we must understand that this mandate will only be until then.

“For BN to become dominant again, we have to win the next election. So, do not get carried away with glorifying others. We should be glorifying our own party because this is the platform that he will be using in the next election,” Wee said.

When asked to specify the politician he was referring to, Wee replied: “I believe we all are intelligent enough here to guess who I meant.”
