Don’t pass the buck on Bukit Cherakah, says ex-MB Khir Toyo

PETALING JAYA: Khir Toyo has expressed disappointment with Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari for seemingly trying to blame the Barisan Nasional administration over the degazettement of parts of a forest reserve.
He said Pakatan Harapan, previously Pakatan Rakyat, has governed Selangor for nearly 15 years now and had all the authority to halt any development project, including the one in the Bukit Cherakah forest reserve.
“The crux of the matter is that the (state) government of the day has the power, they shouldn’t be allowing the development or (degazettement) of that area if it’s not a good move. Just cancel it,” the former Selangor menteri besar told FMT.
Last week, Amirudin said the Selangor state government would complete the process to degazette parts of Bukit Cherakah forest reserve to avoid possible legal action by companies with interests there.
Amirudin also said the delisting of parts of the forest reserve was approved by the previous state government.
Khir Toyo, who was menteri besar for eight years from 2000, said he had no details about the degazettement of the forest reserve.
“I don’t remember because I only became menteri besar in 2000,” he said.
Reiterating that the main issue was that the current state government was going ahead with the degazettement, he said: “Last time, in (PH’s) election campaign they promised to reduce developments but they’re doing this. What for?
“Don’t blame the old state government. They (PH) have been the Selangor government for nearly 15 years. There’s no need to pass the buck to the past administrations.”
Yesterday, Amirudin reportedly said he will offer an explanation on the whole issue involving the forest reserve tomorrow or on Wednesday.
Amirudin, who is also a PKR vice-president, said this was to ensure that Selangorians could understand the real issue while clearing the state administration’s name from any accusations with the general election looming.

Reluctantly I have to agree with Khir Toyo. In governmental rule for 15 years already, yet PH still wants to blame previous BN govt - it's just like the then John Howard government in Australia ALWAYS blaming Labor for profligate spending, even after decades of Coalition (Liberal-National) rule.
Amiruddin has an obvious credibility and integrity problem when even the notorious Toyol guy can embarrass him.
