DAP gunning for seats contested by Bersatu in GE15
DAP organising secretary Steven Sim says the party will field candidates in several of the seats contested by Bersatu in the previous general election.
PETALING JAYA: DAP is aiming to contest several seats that Bersatu had fielded candidates at the 14th general election in 2018 in the next nationwide polls (GE15).
DAP organising secretary Steven Sim said this followed seat negotiations among Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties, where the constituencies contested by Bersatu were discussed.
“DAP aims to contest in several of those seats,” he told a press conference, though he did not specify the number.
Sim said PH’s seat negotiations for GE15 have been completed in “four or five states”, while discussions for the remaining states are expected to be wrapped up by this weekend.
He also announced that the DAP election machinery for GE15 will be launched on Sept 25 at the party’s special congress, to be held at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam.
The special congress will see the party tabling a motion to amend its constitution to allow it to sack elected representatives who do not toe the party line on fundamental issues.
In August, DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said this was to safeguard the party from a “loophole” in the anti-hopping law, where MPs sacked by the party do not have to vacate their seats.
While noting that some might call DAP draconian for this, Loke said this was only for fundamental matters, such as electing the prime minister or voting on the annual federal budget.

Some Bersatu seats in GE14 were good seats relinquished by DAP , PKR and Amanah as a goodwill gesture.
