It is not a verdict. That was decided at the High Court 18 months ago. Rather whether he would be successful in getting a reversal on appeal.

Najib fingers Dr M forex scandal after judge calls SRC 'national embarrassment'

Former premier Najib Abdul Razak has dismissed Court of Appeal judge Abdul Karim Abdul Jalil's assessment that his actions in the SRC International case were not national service but a "national embarrassment".

Najib said if anything was a national embarrassment, it would be the forex scandal in the 1990s, which involved his archnemesis Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"I am very disappointed with that (assessment). Throughout my career, I've always been focused on how to promote national interests.

"During my tenure as prime minister, as an example, the country's total assets under my watch grew from RM800 billion to RM2 trillion. I created a lot of wealth for the country.

"If you talk about national embarrassments... there are other scandalous issues for example the scandal surrounding forex which led to a loss of about RM31 billion... isn't that a more colossal national embarrassment?" Najib said during a virtual press conference.

During the forex scandal, Bank Negara suffered losses amounting to RM31.5 billion between 1992 and 1994, according to a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the matter.

The RCI - which was set up during Najib's tenure as PM - found that Mahathir was in part responsible for the losses.

Najib pointed out that despite the findings, the forex case had been classified as "no further action" (NFA) during the Mahathir-led Pakatan Harapan government's time in office.

"A loss of RM31 billion was classified as NFA. Just to put it into proper perspective," Najib said.

Earlier today the Court of Appeal upheld Najib's conviction over the RM42 million SRC International case.

In delivering the court's judgment, judge Abdul Karim said that Najib had acted for his own personal benefit.

"This is manifested by the flow of the RM42 million from SRC into his personal accounts.

"This is not something that can be said to have been done in the national interest.

"There is no national interest here, just a national embarrassment," the judge said.

Najib said he was very disappointed by today's ruling and will appeal at the Federal Court.

  1. It's just nit picking to point fingers to PH brief 22 months in office.

Najib's press conference today is arguably Contempt of Court.
Mkini was severely punished for criticising a Court Verdict.
    What about Najib ?
BN had 24 years to act on Forex , 16 of which Mahathir was not in power...10 of which Najis was the PM.
    What did they do ?
Where is the criminal indictment over Forex ?

    1. When FOREX crime was perpetuated, UMNO stuck to Omerta, but when SRC embezzlement was done, the Old Man eff-ed Omerta and UMNO because his imperial hatred overrode everything - he has no Omerta loyalty (not that Omerta loyalty is good but he just has none whatsoever - everything was/is for himself & family) - bear in mind he would destroy even his own UMNO Baru , very willingly, like a poisonous snake

    2. Wow…

      Omerta! The umno kind!

If one traces the chronological events that led to the pinklips sinking into the cesspool of his/her own creation, then very clearly mamak has kept to that f*cked umno Omerta at the initial phase of the onset of rosmanajib kleptomaniac acts.

The question is why mamak revolted against that ketuanan Omerta that had serve all those elites/warlords (mamak included) well throughout umno's history.

Bo-Bo unsavory encounters during pink lips regime could be a reason. But there were bigger issues that turned mamak into behaving as a raging wife from the freezing hell.

Besides, never forgetting that mamak owned a big favour to razak & mamak can be very generous in return!

In short, within umno there r no ethical code of conduct - only money talks. & very loud & effective too.

    3. I say kt, do you realise how ridiculous and juvenile you sound going on about omerta, must have been watching too many gangsta flicks, these common thieves in Saville Row suits do not possess even an ounce of virtue don't try to make them look honourable cos they are not, it is just a simple case of one thief getting jealous of another's bigger haul

    4. among the unscrupulous, unlawful and notorious, Omerta may be translated as fear of repercussions - that's what the original Omerta meant - nothing ridiculous

  2. The key issue here, which Najib clearly still doesn't get it....is "For Personal benefit" .
That is the key reason why Najib committed a crime.

Najib went on a shopping spree with the SRC funds...he clearly utilised the money for his personal benefit.

Losses , even huge financial losses can happen in organisations and governments.
People get fired for that, but what amounts to a crime is a different matter.
