Ismail Sabri's "Keluarga Malaysia" my eff-ing foot

Why exclude us during visit to Klang, Santiago asks PM

PETALING JAYA: Klang MP Charles Santiago has chided Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob for visiting flood evacuation centres in Klang without collaborating with his office, state assembly representatives and the Klang City Council (MPK).

Calling it bad faith, the DAP man said it was incumbent on Ismail to be inclusive and to engage with all key stakeholders if he was genuine about finding a durable solution to the flash floods in Klang.

“Let me take this opportunity to say that this visit, without collaborating with my office, elected reps or the Klang local authority goes against the spirit of Keluarga Malaysia, which the PM preaches.

Charles Santiago.

“It is totally unbecoming of a man who holds the top job in the country,” he said in a Facebook post.

Santiago said he was shocked to learn about the visit through a press release from the prime minister’s office and this showed Ismail was not interested in working across the aisle on how they could come together to mitigate these frequent floods.

“As an elected representative, I would have taken this opportunity to explain to the PM as to why urgent funds are needed to mitigate the repetitive flooding in my constituency.

“Walking into evacuation shelters and having brief conversations with flood victims may be comforting to the people concerned but it isn’t enough,” he said.
