Yeo: The only thing that will make the cabinet ministers work overtime is their own political survival

Yeo: This is the only thing that will make the cabinet ministers work overtime

FORMER minister Yeo Bee Yin observed that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Government has been overtime amid news that UMNO has withdrawn its support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Mahiaddin Yassin’s Government.

This is also following news that several members of the cabinet and senior Government officials have gone to the Prime Minister’s residence in Bukit Damansara this morning.

The Bakri MP lamented that the politicians’ reaction to the political upheaval contrasted with the Government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has drawn flak from various quarters since the early days of the pandemic.

“SOPs? Wait. Stimulus package? Wait. Welfare aid? Wait. Increase capacity for healthcare? Wait. 150k laptops? Wait. Parliament? Wait.

Mass testing and fast tracing? Never mind. People committing suicide? Never mind. People losing jobs? Never mind. Business closing down? Never mind,” she commented in a Facebook post.

“Everything is either wait or never mind. This is the only thing that will make the cabinet ministers work overtime,” she added in reference to the ministers and Government officials’ presence at Mahiaddin’s residence, which many believe is connected to the call by Umno for the premier to step down.

In a Facebook live broadcast following the conclusion of the over four-hour long Supreme Council meeting last night, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi urged Mahiaddin to take the honourable route and step down from office.

According to Zahid, this is to allow for the appointment of a temporary prime minister who will focus on the people’s wellbeing, address the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure that the vaccination process is expedited. – July 8, 2021.

  2. Malaysians have long called for younger and female representation. What better way than for Yeo Bee Yin to be DPM. Only 38 years old. Nurul Izzah cannot, if her father is PM.

Benazir Bhutto became Pakistan PM (not DPM) at age 35.
Sanna Marin PM of Finland at 34
    Jacinda Arden NZ at 39
Yingluck Sinawatra PM Thailand at 44
    Etc
