Ampang Hospital COVID-19 deaths: Probe the allegations, says Najib

FORMER Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak urged the authorities to investigate claims that Ampang Hospital ran out of oxygen pressure recently, leading to numerous COVID-19 related deaths.

“I hope this report is inaccurate and the allegation is very serious. The authorities must investigate this so as to provide justice to affected families,” he said in a Facebook post, referring to a FocusM article.

Yesterday, FocusM quoted CodeBlue news portal claiming that at least 29 COVID-19 patients died on Aidiladha Day at the Ampang Hospital after oxygen pressure dropped, as the health facility was struggling to admit scores of critically ill COVID-19 patients requiring respiratory support.

According to CodeBlue’s sources, Ampang Hospital’s record number of deaths on July 20 comes on top of 23 COVID-19 fatalities reported on July 16, making it 52 deaths in two days.

Publicly, the Health Ministry (MOH) reported 93 COVID-19 fatalities nationwide on July 20, including 31 in Selangor.

Alarmed by the report, Najib said that the issue was as serious as Perikatan Nasional’s failure in calling for nationwide lockdown sooner, where he claimed they waited until intensive care unit (ICU) capacity breached 104% use on May 25, before locking down the country on June 1.

“To me, both mistakes are unforgivable criminal offences. Tens of people died at the Ampang Hospital on an auspicious day due to failure to monitor and provide the necessary oxygen to patients,” he opined. – July 24, 2021.
