Education minister's term as senator extended until 2024

Education Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin's tenure as a senator has been extended until 2024, which will allow him to continue serving in the cabinet.

Radzi, who was made the education minister through his appointment as a senator, was to see his three-year tenure expire on July 16.

According to Parliament's website, Radzi will be reappointed as a senator for another three-year term.

The reappointment will take effect on July 17 and will last until July 16, 2024.

Radzi, a Bersatu vice-president, contested in the Keterah parliamentary seat in the 2018 general election but was defeated by Umno's Annuar Musa.

He was appointed as a senator on July 16, 2018 and made the deputy economic affairs minister under the Pakatan Harapan government.

He was appointed as a senior minister and education minister under the Perikatan Nasional government, after Bersatu defected, leading to the collapse of the Harapan government.

Prior to joining politics, Radzi was a forensic accounting lecturer at the University of Tasmania in Australia.

MCA: 'New Malaysia has failed, so when's DAP leaving Pakatan?'
    By NST Online - December 21, 2018

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA has challenged DAP to leave Pakatan Harapan (PH) immediately following the latter’s alleged deviation from its ‘New Malaysia’ objective.

MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon questioned DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang’s claim that DAP would withdraw from PH if the New Malaysia objective was abandoned, and said it was a renewal of Lim’s past rhetoric.

PH, he said, had already abandoned its New Malaysia objectives.

“PH’s campaign promises during the 14th general election are more commonly associated with frequent U-turns, vigorously promoting the Bumiputera agenda and violating the Malaysian spirit of national unity.

“PH’s performance has long deviated from the objective of a New Malaysia. If Kit Siang is indeed serious with his words, then DAP must immediately leave PH and withdraw from the ruling government,” he said in a statement.

Mah said PH’s failure was proven in several issues. He said DAP, after winning GE14, had stated that it would not let the recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) issue drag on and would have it recognised within 30 days.

“This recognition was then extended to the end of the year, and then “in the next 5 years.” The need for a study on UEC recognition already reveals bankruptcy in credibility,” he said.
