HONG KONG: Beverage maker Vitasoy has become the latest target of Chinese netizen calls for a boycott after an employee circulated a memo online offering condolences to the family of a worker who had stabbed a Hong Kong police officer.
In a statement on the Chinese social media platform Weibo on Saturday, Vitasoy said a staff member had circulated a memo that it described as “extremely inappropriate” without authorisation, and the company reserved the right to take legal action.
The memo offered condolences to the family of a 50-year-old Vitasoy worker who had stabbed a police officer, 28, and then killed himself on Thursday, the anniversary of the former British colony’s return to Chinese rule, media outlets reported.

d. Now, Chinese citizens intend to boycott Vitasoy (presumably for condoning criminal killer of policeman),
e. The hashtag “#Vitasoygetoutofthemainland” had garnered almost 100 million views by Sunday.
f. The outraged Chinese citizens flooded online calls for a boycott of Vitasoy, which (unfortunately) gets two-thirds of its revenue from mainland China,
g. Naturally, Vitasoy Group is pissed off with the employee who without authority offered condolences on the Net to the cop-killer's family, and invited angry reaction from its principal market.
The main point has been the bizarre sympathy by a Vitasoy employee for the family of a cop-killer, a criminal in any language or country.

There is absolutely Nothing wrong with expressing sympathy to the family of a person who has committed suicide.

The policeman is just doing his job to earn a living. He is also just following order and policy to carry out his duty. If you don't agree with him, go for his chief, better still go to the governor.
