KUALA LUMPUR
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says he has not received any official notification from Supreme Council member Tengku Zafrul Aziz about his plans to leave the party and join PKR.

“As of now, there has been no request from him (to leave the party), and he has not met with me, so we cannot confirm this news,” Zahid told reporters after an event at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur today.

Yesterday, FMT reported that Tengku Zafrul is negotiating a move to PKR, with a decision expected within “the next two days”.

However, PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said there has been no application from Tengku Zafrul to join the party. She said anyone, including Tengku Zafrul, wishing to join PKR must apply online.

Tengku Zafrul, who is the investment, trade and industry minister, is a member of the Umno Supreme Council and the party’s Kota Raja division chief.

In March, he quit his post as Selangor Umno treasurer.

Zahid also reminded Umno leaders to maintain their integrity and not be swayed by offers driven by personal interests.

“Any member and leader of the party should prioritise the party’s interests over personal interests, and any personal agenda should be set aside if one wants their party to be given priority.

“If personal interests are given priority, then we leave it to the members and the people to judge the integrity of that person,” he said.

Zahid, who is also the Barisan Nasional chairman, also advised his allies in the unity government not to accept members from other parties.

“If the opposite happens, they will certainly feel hurt. So, in such a situation, we should maintain unity among us,” he said.
